Drivetrain 2C01 HPFP question
2C01 HPFP question
I purchased a 2012 R60 S automatic for my daughter when she started driving last year. Since then, I have replaced the plugs, coils, and VANOS sensors because the codes it was throwing seemed to indicate those needed replacing (I did these a bit ago but was getting a bunch of misfire codes and cam position errors); the car no longer throws those codes. Anyway, it also threw a 2C01 HPFP error that I cleared but now it's back. She says her car feels sluggish with ~1/2 or less fuel in the tank but better when full. The HPFP was replaced by the PO in 2018 (he also had turbo lines, thermostat, and I think something else replaced but I can't remember what, and I think it was under a recall). Anyway, the question is, will a failing fuel pump cause a HPFP error? How do I determine the pump is failing? Is there a test port to check pressure? And finally, is there a 2x advantage to a Mini or Delphi branded pump vs Pierburg to match the 2x price difference? Please excuse my ignorance as my searches for "fuel pump" generally lead to HPFP and I assume being replaced in 2018 it's still good?
EDIT: Sorry, just noticed I posted in modifications when it should have been in Stock / Issues...hoping a mod can move and not send the "you posted in the wrong forum police" after me.

It is possible that the HPFP went out again, though I would imagine it would be unlikely unless the one it was replaced with was one of the original designed ones that has all the issues (still unlikely I would think). The error code 2C01 is a code that is seen by standard code readers and thus cannot see the whole code like the readers at the BMW/Mini dealers. But that code is most definitely related to the fuel system and usually is related to HPFP issues. But with the sluggish when less than half a tank makes me wonder if the main fuel filter is clogged. The main fuel filter is built into the primary fuel pump and as such you have to replace the whole part which runs about $450+ for the part.
As for which HPFP, that is a very important question and a good one to ask. There are specific part numbers for specific year models and they are not interchangeable. You will need to look at the manufactured date for the Mini, found on one of the identification plates in either the door well or under the hood. Depending on the year you need one of the following equivilant part numbers:
But before you go too far into buying parts I would call your local Mini dealer and give them the VIN because the warranty on the HPFP was extended to 120,000 miles/10 Years so you may still qualify for them to do the work for free.

kidwuf,
Thank you very much. The closest Mini dealer is in Tucson, about 1.5 hours from me, and I shall call them if the code comes back. I replaced the hot and cold side charge pipes and foolishly cleared the code with my (Schwaben?) reader (I got it from ECS Tuning...love those guys over there). I'm pretty sure the reader is capable of reading full BMW / Mini codes but, apparently, I haven't used it correctly.
After changing the hot side pipe (the one with the inline muffler) and adding a catch can, the car seems to idle more smoothly and throttle response is better. Not sure if that's because I want there to be a difference but I want to get the car sorted before she heads off to college next year. Anyway, I'll quit rambling and just say thank you for your help.
