JB+ vs NM plug in tuners

I still have 30,000 miles of warranty on my MINI so I want to make sure anything I do can be removed before the vehicle goes in for any work. I have settled on a plug in tuner knowing that I could get more performance from an actual ECU tune, and that is just fine.

Now that I have made that choice, I see there are two different tuners to choose from at roughly the same price, the JB+ and the NM.

The NM seems newer but the JB+ is more established. I also have found dyno tests from the JB+ while the only dyno sheet posted next to an NM is on WayMotorworks and is actually the dyno test for the JB+ (strange).

Both are supposedly adjustable and with the NM on sale, they are almost exactly the same price.

So, anyone here have experience with both? Reasons to pick one over the other?

JB+ seems like an easier install - only one connector point at the MAF. The NM module plugs into the boost tube sensor and the manifold pressure sensor, so requires air box removal.

I don't have an air box anymore so that isn't really an issue. I also noticed that the NM says (I know, advertising) it has more HP/Torque boost than the JB+. Could that be (assuming it is true) because it also plugs into and therefor can add more boost?

More monitoring with two points of connection would seem better. I only used the JB+ on my Countryman and it worked fine, but the NM at the same price seems like a better choice.

I agree with this thought as more sensors will have better control. Plus the sale price of the NM makes it just that much better.

I've been looking at the same thing. I know they both say use 91 octane gas, has anyone run either with 89 octane?

If you want to run with less than 91 with the JB+, you need to turn down the power percentage inside the unit.

You do not need to remove anything with either the JB+ or NM installs. 5 minute install for the JB+ and 7 or 8 if your slow for the NM. Just follow the directions meaning shut the car off, pop the hood and get out and lock the car for 20 minutes so the car goes to sleep. after 20 go back, open hood without unlocking the car install which ever box you bought and now unlock and your done.

Please check page 216 in your owners manual- for correct performance these cars require min 91 octane- 89 is ok for less performance and will not cause damage so common sense would tell you that if your adding a performance enhancing device you should use the proper octane fuel for performance.

Not trying to be a jerk here.. but...

I made the mistake of putting regular unleaded in my MINI exactly one time, turned it into a gutless wonder that could not pass a lawn mower. Never made that mistake again. Could not imagine putting any performance mod on and then running low octane fuel.

Maybe OK for someone on a really serious budget that is in stop and go traffic all the time but I just could not imagine.

How is the NM? I have a Jb+ currently and the NM says it makes more power so I'm willing to try it out. I did some research and a few forums were saying that it put the car in limp mode and a few other problems with it like the car jolting and such. I was wondering how it was doing on your car?

So far it has been great, no problems and it does make the car peppier. I can not say if it makes more power than the jb+ but I can say it makes more power than stock and is simple to install.

Also, there are no external adjustments, no dials, no switches, nothing. Maybe something inside but I have not needed any adjustments so I have not bothered to look.
