Exhaust Question

I have the Magnaflow exhaust on my countrymand and I was thinking about removing the 2nd cat and remaining stock resonator (shown in photo) that the MF did not replace to get an increase in exhaust sound. Has anyone replaced just the stock resonator that is not replaced by the MF? I am wondering how much this will increase the exhaust sound. The reason I am asking is that the muffler shop I have gone to for year said they cannot remove the 2nd cat despite not being required in the US.

Keep asking more shops. They'll eventually do it, if there's no receipt involved:-).

It would be interesting to hear a sound clip of this setup.

I was surprised he would not do it. If I am not mistaken the JCW exhaust even eliminates the second cat.

That was the setup on my R53 but the MF was one of the loudest exhausts for that car.

No the JCW exhaust removes the resonator not the second cat....I have JCW exhaust and it sounds perfect....removing the second cat will not do anything for you....just remove your resonator and straight pipe it for a little more sound

The JCW exhaust removed the second cat on the R56. On the R60, it is just a cat-back.

It's just a matter of asking the right place. I found a place that would set me up to go cat-less if I were so inclined and I'm in Cali. I doubt things would get too crazy sound-wise with the factory DP in place. I would drop the second cat but keep the resonator. You'll get more sound and more performance.

Walter,

Did you ever find someone that will remove the 2nd cat? I am probably having the MF exhaust installed by Kinney's and deleting the resonator. He won't remove the 2nd cat and so far I have been to 7 other shops who won't consider removing the 2nd cat. I am sure there is probably a shade tree sop somewhere that will remove it, just haven't found it yet.

Michael
