Drivetrain ECU Tune - Best Mod Yet? Yup!
What did you do about the CEL with the Akrapovic?
Nope no dyno! He threw gauges on the car and we drove it stock, tuned it, drove it etc. He tuned the light out..testing for me is years away..All of the parts are top notch, look, install & perform top shelf. Very impressed by the fit & finish of these manufacturers.
Cool. That all sounds good. Yeah, the parts are great. I had a hard time putting my Akrapovic on there. It was almost too good looking to install.
I come from the diesel world, and some of those products that show up may work but the construction & presentation is laughable. Ive sent many items back. Very happy with the MINI parts to date.
I finally go to the dyno today, after this mods ECU CUSTOM TUNE BY ETG, HI FLOW CAT, JCW TURBO, 2.5INCH CUSTOM CATBACK, PRECISION FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER, AND A AEM WATER METH INJECTION 197 WHP & 207 POUNDS OF TORQUE. ON A DYNOJET. THE CM FEELS AMAZING! NEXT WEEK WILL GO BACK TO THE DYNO WITH A HI FLOW INTAKE. sorry no graphic today, but for sure next week will show it.

- JCW turbo
- High-flow, 2.5" exhaust
- Aftermarket FMIC
- Water/meth injection
- ECU tune
. . . and got 197 whp and 207 lb/ft of torque?
I hate to say it, bit it seems a tad low. I've seen dynos of similar setups pulling into the 230-240s in hp and torque on a dyno.
I would think the JCW turbo alone, without a tune, could get you 197 whp and 207 lb/ft of torque. Maybe I read what you wrote incorrectly . . . ?
There is no way you have a JCW turbo and are making under 200WHP.. LOL.
I have a stock MCS turbo and make 225WHP/250WTQ. RMW tuned.
You should be making about 240-260WHP/275-295wtq on that setup if thats truly what you have..
Wow what a waste.

Injectors and downpipe are prob holding you back and the JCW turbo isn't that impressive.
Don't waste your money on an intake, just buy a drop in filter. The countryman has an excellent cold air intake.
What boost are you running? Stock is 9-11psi...
This is just with a tune....STOCK COUNTRYMAN..199 and 234..

This has been done. Injectors and downpipe arent holding him back that poor tuning.
So I am thinking of getting tune done. After reading the thread I come to conclusion on going with either NM or Renntech. What is the final consensus between those two? This is my daily driver that I plan on keeping till I hit at least 150k miles (drive 35/yr) so how will a tune effect the reliability ? I have the jcw exhaust and once I get the tune I won't be doing any more mods. Maybe a cai from DoS if it ever comes out.
2. The turbo cant flow 17PSI at 6000RPM but can flow it at say 2500RPM.
Look up turbo efficiency.

I was decided on the NM tune, but now a company called MINI dynamics says they're coming out with a tuning tool like the accessport where you can flash tunes yourself. They're supposed to be announcing something mid next month. I'm waiting to see what they announce.

no offense, just cause they might be able to do obd2 tunes, doesnt mean they are any good. I think we all need to recognize not all tunes and tuners are the same and just cause someone says they can tune something doesnt mean its a good tune or even a safe tune. I have seen this all over the evo/subie forums kids getting jank tunes or trying to tune themselves and BOOM.
So to sum it up, just be careful and make sure these people know what they are doing, you are trusting a huge investment to a no name company with no footprint in the business.
caution.
I guess i can go get the Megan Coilovers instead for the time being and get a tune in 4-6 months. By then someone will be able to tell how mini dynamics is...thanks for the link chrunck and thanks for the word of caution jaremy.
has anyone even talked to these guys?

Amen brother!
Just so you guys know, RennTech and NM aren't the only tuners. Check out BrenTuning. It's like $695 for 210hp/260tq but depends on your mods he said. Check it out and call him.
Any word regarding whether they can tune autos without having to neuter it? Also, do they do all current MINIs or only pre-Feburary 2012 MINIs?
He said he can tune all MCS including 11-13. Just keep calling the guy does a lot of BMW's and Subie's, and when I spoke to him he said my mods were good. Let me know if you get ahold of him, I believe his name is Brandon or something.
And yes, he doesn't alter anything he said autos can achieve 210hp/260tq with a panel filter, 2nd cat off, and FMIC w/hot side boost pipe.
Manuals would achieve more. He said he can get some depends on mods up to 290+tq!

Cool. I will keep trying. For me, the shape of the power band is more important than peak numbers. Like you, I want the power lower in the rev range rather than higher.
