Why doesn't ALTA want our money?

With so many Countryman being sold, does anyone know why ALTA doesn't make and has no plans to make R60 parts? Is it the "It's not really a MINI." thing? Or has BMW made this engine too difficult to work with and hence too expensive to develop for?

Thoughts?

ALTA are you out there?

Curious. Have they outright said they didn't want to develop for the R60? I'm still new to Minis, so I'm curious if there was any lag from Alta when older models shipped.

Quote "it's not a priority for us". Which to me means, not interested.

Appreciate that. Sent them an email this morning. Maybe one of their combo packages will scratch my itch!

You can see my CM on Van's site. His stuff is fantastic, but he doesn't do tuning or sway bars.........yet. Van? I am saving up for his exhaust system.

Alta's R56 parts had a ton of problems out of the gate, they're probably just waiting to see how many Countrymans are sold and then they'll start copying whatever the rest of the aftermarket makes.

Come on, Geoffrey - you know by now that we have to forge ahead on our own.

I started last February approaching all of the vendors and suppliers offering to supply my car, time, measurements, etc. I got some bites, but a lot of testing came from failures costing me out-of-pocket.

The bottom line for now is that the number of R60 sales is frightening - over 50% are non-S models, and the buyer demographic is not the standard modding type (by 'modding type', I mean most everybody here).

So, as painful as it is, the R60 may just be left out in the cold... at least until the N18 is cracked, and then we'll just get the scraps and leftovers.

Trust me - it's so depressing, I had to buy a JCW R52...

Theta, what's the N18 you referred to in your post? Thanks.

The powerplant -- the engine code is N18, versus the older code of N14.

N18 is yet to be cracked without yanking the DME... No flashers, etc.

If anyone lurking on this thread is local to San Francisco, CA and wants to help us develop the new CAI for the Countryman S, drop me a PM or email.

If you enjoy it, how can it be bad? The ALTA and the VIP intake are about the same, and I've had no problems with mine (I have the VIP).

Does suck about the news of not getting an Accessport anytime soon. Going to have to look for other options in the meantime.
