Oil Catch Can: red flag for warranty?

So, has anyone had their dealer raise any concern after installing and OCC? I know it is modifying the emissions system, so some dealers might squawk about it.
Also, any particular OCC recommended?

I've put the BSH OCC on mine along with the boost tap on the other side of the valve cover. My car is out of warranty but my SA says they are a good add since they tend to catch all the bypass junk rather than running it through the engine and carboning up your valves, etc. I don't push my car often so I'm not seeing much of anything in the can so far. I've only had it on for about a month now. The BSH is good quality and even has a little dip stick to check the can. There's a drain screw on the bottom side when it needs draining. I attached mine to the firewall.
I'd say check with your service dept. since they probably vary in whether or not it'll void the warranty.

I'd put TEN chrome ones on then drive to the dealer with the bonnet off

I asked the shop manager about oil catch cans at my dealer. He said that they were a modification of the emission system, but he hasn't see any problems caused by them and didn't have a problem with them.

Because they are an emission system mod, it would be a good idea to put it back to stock, before having it inspected, if you live in a state where that is required.

Thanks for the input. I like the look of the BSH setup, plus it looks like I could take it off easily and put back to stock when I take it in for service - not sure how mod-friendly my dealer is yet.

Look up www.waymotorworks.com and call or email Way. He'll tell you everything you need to know about OCC for your model. I believe the 2012 is the N18 motor and the R56 is the N14 so the items are going to be slightly different. Ask him about the boost tap as well (don't know if it's needed on 2012 or what).

No boost tap plug on the N18. No place to put it. The PCV passages that are in use when the manifold is under vacuum are all internal.

In fact, the N18 OCC configuration is so non-intrusive that I can't imagine how it could be used as an excuse by a dealer to withhold warranty coverage. Unlike the N14 OCC with the companion boost tap plug, there really is no rerouting of the crankcase gasses at all. It just replaces a short, unrestricted, open passage from valve cover to intake pipe with another unrestricted, open passage from valve cover to intake pipe that is a bit longer (and happens to pass thru the can along the way).

I have first hand experience, I had a M7 OCC installed on my 07 R56 MCS. I took it in for regular service maintenance (still under warranty) and I got a call an hr after I left the dealership, service manager stated they could not work on the car as long as the OCC was installed. Also, I would void the rest of my warranty if I left it installed. So I drove back to the dealership, removed the OCC in the parking lot, return the key to the service manager and they started working on it. I have since sold the M7 OCC and put on the BSH and remove it if I need work done to the car....
