Help me understand the shadow/black line rear lighting kits

Hi

I want to change my rear lights to the blackline kit I've seen online, but there seem to be a variety of different kits available. I'm finding it hard to work out what bits each kit comes with and how much of it will end up being useful on my car. What should I be looking for? I've got a 2013 factory JCW roadster.

I've seen these images:

And I'm trying to tally them up to what's actually on offer.

On this website

https://www.smps2012.com/product-pag...ck-line-lights

The options listed are Lights + Indicators / Lights + Indicators + Light Covers / Lights + Indicators + Light Covers + Fogs

On this website

https://shop.mwuk.uk/products/mini-r...=6016204242976

It just gives the option of LCI / pre-LCI 'retrofit' (I don't know what retrofit means here, or why the other option isn't considered the same)

I've looked up part codes but it's not consistent which kits match up to which photos, and some of them are listed as no longer available whilst some still seem to be...

All I want to find is the cheapest way of buying the light cluster and the side indicator. I'm not too fussed about the surrounds as I'd rather keep the chrome. Anyone able to tell me exactly what I'm looking for?

i think the pre LCI have the reverse light in the signal/brake light cluster, it was positioned at the bottom of the cluster like this s-l400.jpg (315×400) (ebayimg.com)

LCI models have the reverse light separated out into the rear bumper. the pics you have attached are all LCI.

Thanks for that, from what I read on some older threads earlier, it seems that the retrofit for the pre-LCI is as you say, moving the reverse lights out of the main cluster and into the bumper, and presumably involves some wiring? And any reference to fogs is probably meaning those older lights too.

Essentially, for my situation of an R59 JCW I don't need to worry about any of the pricier kits as none of the extra bits will fit. The cheapest I've seen just the rear and side lights is £180 which is a lot cheaper than the fuller kits seem to be listed at.

Hello,

Just saw this. Those are our pictures that they have on their site We were the first people to have these shot in our studio.

Yes their are for LCI cars. https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/63212296299/

I have this kit on my R58 JCW as I just did not install the Cneter back up as these are for the Cooper 2011+, not a full kit for the Cooper S and JCW.

The JCW you just use those rear lights, no back up kit. Cooper S had their ow kit and its now NLA. Lots of those factory kits are now NLA.

If you want them for pre LCI MINI you would have to wire them for the change were the back up lights were in the taillights.
