Can anyone tell me who actually makes the "factory" driving lights? I want to replace my solid black disk type light covers with some kind of grille or mesh ones so that I can use them without getting out of the car and removing the covers.
I talked to a 4x4 place and they say that I can probably get them, but since every manufacturer makes different sized lights, ordering them from a different manufacturer would most likely get me a set of covers that are no use.
So...any help? :???:

I've seen the name posted here or on M2 in a couple of threads. What you're looking for though, will only require the size of the lights, if you can find anyone still making the screens. Every one I've seen in the past have had to be bolted on.

Two things about the grill screens. One, they don't stop the lens from getting sandblasted or small rocks from possibly making it through the mesh. And two, the screen mesh will stop anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of the light going out (depending on how fine of mesh it is).

What I want is something like this which Mini Mania sells for the headlights of classic Minis. This set are about 7 inches diameter. The driving lights are about 5 inches.

As far as I know they are manufactured by "Jute"...the same company that make some of the lights for Jeep.

Cool. Thanks. I found their site www.jute.com.tw but I can't see anything about stone guards. I think I'm going to email them.

I tried talking to one of the compaies acorss the pond and they said they knew of no one that made them for the MINI but they have the for the Mini. They took my information and said they would keep their eye out for someone that made them and let me know if and when they find where they can get them to sell to me.

Mini Mania has 7 inch ones for the Classic Mini's headlights (that's where I got the pic). I'm almost considering getting a 2nd pair of the retaining rings and a soldering iron and making myself a set. Except that I've never soldered anything.

What about just putting some of the same film sold for protecting Mini headlights on the fog/driving lights and leave the covers off entirely?

I really like the look of the grille. By choice, I'd get the wire mesh stone guards in the picture, but in black. Where the lights sit on the front of the car, with black covers they look like and extension of the factory stripes, and I like that a lot. However, I'd use the lights a LOT more if I didn't have to stop and get out of the car before I can turn them on.

Anyone know what has to be done when one of the factory driving lights are cracked by a stone? Expensive? etc

Well, I discovered while messing around with my lights that the factory driving lights are NOT a "sealed beam" unit in the classic sense. The bulb looks like a halogen bulb and slides into the back of the unit. That means there isn't even a partial vacuum in the light, so there shouldn't be any problem with using it with a cracked glass.
From the experiences I had while looking for stoneguards (which I STILL can't find), I would expect it to be very difficult to find a replacement glass without going to a MINI dealership. If you decide to do that, I'd recommend talking to Brian at Classic Auto Campus first.

X-Pel can be contacted at 800-447-9928. This seems to me to be the preferred way to go for driving lamp protection.

More like impossible. My understanding is that the glass is not available as a replacement part. A cracked lens on a factory driving light means a complete replacement assembly.

There is an aftermarket company called Alpena that used to make wire mesh stoneguards for headlights. You might check around to see what they have.

yep, I just want to confirm that when you get the headlight covers from
Autoclearguard.com, they have the Xpel kit which includes covers for
all the lights (headlights, driving lights, markers, and fog) for a low price.

I have the kit on my MCS and have been very happy with not worring
about chipped or cracked lenses.
