Adding the belly pan kit (side panels) to a UK R59 - modification? JCW
I've been planning to add the GP2 diffuser to my Roadster for a while now, and saw recently the tray that sits under the engine bay. No problems with either, seem simple enough to fit. But just yesterday I was reading some old threads on this forum about some side panels that form part of the belly pan kit and run between the tray and the diffuser's scoops. I was able to pick up the BMW part numbers (51752759385 & 51752759386) and saw that the panels are officially advertised to fit the R56 and R58. Now, in the old threads I saw, there was reference to people fitting them to an R59 but with a vague 'with a little modification'. I think there were originally some accompanying pictures, but the threads date from 7-9 years ago and they have gone from wherever they were hosted. I can see that the R59 has some struts across the underside of the car that would get in the way, but one comment suggests they can just be removed and refitted over the panel, which doesn't seem like much of a 'modification'.
My question then, is whether anyone can shed some further light on this, specifically the modifications involved? My car has a prospective appointment at a body shop for some other things, but they are part of a chain that includes Mini dealerships and have Mini-approved techs. If I get them to get all the underside parts to fit, then am I going to get pushback when they see the side panels officially don't fit the car?
