After the last oil change, I had a brain fart and reset the oil service indicator twice. That resulted in the display showing 3,100 miles. This was about 1,500 miles ago and the remaining mileage has not yet decreased. I read somewhere I would have to wait for the countdown to reach 0 miles before I can again reset the oil service indicator. Is that correct?

 

Countdown meters are, as you've discovered, a PITA. Your odometer isn't. Many change oil at 5K religiously so when the clock shows 5000 or 0000 miles, its time. Easy peasy.

 

I understand that and I have no issue with going by the odometer. Nevertheless, I would like to know how to reset the OLM eventually. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only idiot who has reset the OLM twice in a row by accident.
