15k between service??

i just got my car back from dealership today for the 11k service. the service indicator was reset to 15500 miles before i bring it back for service again. ummm, thats is weird considering they say i dont have to change the oil until then. they must have a great deal of faith in castro synthetic oils..

p.s. ofcourse i'm going to change the oil before then. (has anyone else seen such a long interval between oil changes..) time for a UOA study..

I have had the same experience. I change the oil myself in between engine monitor specified intervals.

My first scheduled oil change came up at 14,100. When the computer was reset, the interval was 15,000 more miles.

I'll change it at around 20K and again at 25K.

No matter how good the sythetic oil is, these motors are putting out ~100 hp per liter.

I change once in between dealership changes. Oil's cheap (even synthetic) compared to new engines.

Are you confusing the Service for the Oil change? Not the same thing.

i know they are not the same.. i do find it puzzling that MINI dealership that i go to say that i should change oil when the 15k interval is up. that doesnt make sense.. there are only few oils that would last a long. interval like that would required filter change in the middle of the interval.(i dont think the filter could last that long.)

oh well, i will be chaning my own oil half way in the interval.. (did it before, and will do it again) REDLINE all the way

Actually it does make sense if you think about it. MINI gives you free everything for what, 36 months ... 50K miles. They care about getting you to 50K. If your going to provide free service that long, your going to do it as economically as possible. They will get you to 50K.

What I would like to know is how many cars have 100K or more and only strictly followed MINIs recommendation. I would bet there would be oil related failures.
