Engine Temperature

I hooked my Scan Gauge the other day and noticed that my engine temperature is running between 92 C - 98 C.(197 F - 208 F)
This seems a little high to me. I do know that the thermostat controls the engine temperature in conjunction with the radiator fan by the way.
Anyone else know what their Gen 2 engine runs at for temperature?

The scan gauge sits very nice in the center dash above the coin tray with a little 2 sided tape.

The Cooper S with the N18 usually runs around 220F I think at least some JCW’s will run a little lower in sport mode, but I’m not sure. My N18 used to run right at 220, but post ECU tune it was dropped to about 195F

I’m with cornjuice on that! Having the remap is great, but I have a couple other mods as well. A stage 1 tune is for an otherwise stock car. The performance increase is awesome, not sure exactly what the gain is with stage one, but is definitely significant. It’s the best bang for the buck mod and you get lower engine temps along with it. It may only be with stage 2 and up with some tunes that the reduced temps is included, I’m not sure about that, but any tuner can tell you if they will do it or not with stage 1.
If I remember correctly, I think part of the reason they have the temp so high on these besides emissions efficiency, it also was (in theory) to help prevent carbon issues on the direct injection engines. I say in theory because we know that it doesn’t seem to make much difference running at a lower temp. I am only repeating what I have read and heard from other people regarding that, so I’m not claiming any real knowledge here, lol. Just putting it out there. Anyone please correct me if I’m wrong.
If you want to know more about tuning, I would recommend contacting Mariokart. He did the tune on mine, and can answer the detailed questions you may have. Myself and many, many others are very happy with his products and awesome customer service.
It is definitely a nice bonus having lowered temps, especially since BMW/Mini decided that we don’t need a way to read the temp at all without installing gauges, using a scangauge type or using an app on a smartphone.
Hopefully something was helpful to someone, ha ha. Good luck Have fun in it!
