R59 New Mini Roadster
New Mini Roadster
I have one year left on my 2013 roadster... Love the car and will keep it at least through the warranty; however, must make a decision...unless Mini officially commits to a new roadster within the next year, I will buy a Miata , maybe the 2017 with the retractable hard top.

Like you I am hoping that Mini builds the Superleggera. The concept has character.
The Miata would be a very good car. You might also want to drive the new Mini convertible or a one year old 228i convertible. The 2 liter turbo engine is very good. Good luck on the future decision.

I have at least 10 yrs left on the roadster
and if anything we'll get something in addition to replace our second car
If they bring the Superleggra in 2018 it will be a good year, though I usually don't go for the first production yr. I'm happy to let them debug things for a yr or so.
Regardless I'll be shopping around just as we did when we found the Mini... I check out the mini convertible and it's growing on me. But we really like the roadster. It fits our life style better. But who knows what will come out in the coming years.
ps: Not even talking about the extra weight, the convertible hard top is a tough call as I'm learning. It does take significantly more space in the trunk and has typically more mechanical issues, and often more leak problems. At the same time it is undeniably quieter and safer (when the top is up). . . It's a tough call.

Let hope for the Supperleggra. Or extend your MINI warranty or get an third part one.

There are a couple of big pluses that come with the Miata... famed reliability and rear wheel drive. I saw a new Miata live on the road a recent trip to Florida this month. First one. It's ok, looks wise, but still like my classic Mini Roadster's look better.
Will definitely try to keep the Mini as long as possible, since it's not my daily driver. We'll see how this extended relationship pans.
Not counting on the Superleggera. If Mini couldn't make a go of the Roadster because it had a limited audience and was regarded as too expensive or not a good value, I don't see how another, even more expensive Mini Roadster is going to be realistically attempted.
