I keep forgetting to ask about this, possibly R59 specific question on the MINI recommended tire pressure.

My low tire warning came on a few weeks ago and I inflated the culprit tire to match the others, 36 PSI cold if I recall.

However I also checked what the door jam sticker said and was surprised to see 41 PSI as the recommendation.

Is that a misprint? Is 41 PSI really the recommended tire pressure?

 

It's no misprint. Cars have different pressure recommendation based on a lot of things. Ultimately it's not terribly critical one way to the other as long as they are sufficiently inflated. It is actually more dangerous to be under inflated than over inflated. If you look on the tire you will see that the maximum pressure is quite high so there's plenty of margine. The main difference will have to do with balancing mpg, comfort, and performances. Cooper S and JCW have a hire recommended PSI because they have a little bit more woompf to them. Roadster are also a tad heavier so that plays into it as well. Personally I like to err on the higher side so I'm happy being around 40. But during the winter or if you want a hair more comfort you can keep them at 36psi. All you need to do is make sure you reset the TPMs after set inflation

35 to 42psi depending on model and wheel diameter. 16" and 17" assumes runflats. My door sticker says 38psi and the car came with 195/55-16 runflats.

 

Yep, based on chassis and tire/ wheel combo.

 

300 KPa here or 43.5 psi for JCW on 205/45R17s

 

Makes a huge difference with these run-flats... keep 'em close to stated inflation spec for best "feel", if possible. It's in your owner's manual under Mobility... shows all tire combinations and recommended pressures for Cooper, Cooper S and JCW models.

 

On the R58 JCW Coupe with 17" its 39 psi front and rear, looks like its a tad higher with the roadster.

 

Ancient thread, I know, but I got the change of season "low tire" warning on one wheel this morning. That one was at 30, so I thought that (through my inattention) it was probably down about 6 PSI. Bzzzzzt!!! Silly me. All four were low vs the 41 PSI recommendation I was shocked to discover. The Driveguard Plus tires are pretty sad, so I'll not be unhappy (other than the cost) to go away from runflats in the future.

 

Yep they run higher on the PSI then most MINIs.

 

I always reset the tire pressure level after inflating tires or changing summer to winter... it helps make sure there's no confusion regardless of what tire pressure I choose to use (mostly based on specific tire size and type I run).
