Meet Miss Abby
Hi All,
I've been wanting to post some photos and officially introduce Abby, but we wanted to resolve some things with the dealer first. We now have our youngest in the garage and we're really excited!
Abby is a May build with the following:
DESIGN
Lightning Blue Body Color
Contrasting Door Panel with Polar Beige
Dash Surface in Fluid Silver
MINI Yours Soda Wheel with Multifunction
Polar Beige Color Line
Body Color Mirror Caps
Semi-Automatic Soft Top
Leather: Gravity Polar Beige
Sport Seats
PACKAGES
Cold Weather Package
Premium Package
Sport Package with 17"
Mini Yours Twin Blade Spoke Wheels
Silver Sport Stripes
White Turn Signals
PERFORMANCE
6-Speed Getrag Manual
Adaptive Light Control
Auto Dimming Mirrors
Rear Fog Lamp
Retractable Headlamp Washers
All Season Tires
INSTRUMENTS
Wind Deflector
Bluetooth and USB/iPod Adapter
Rear Park Distance Control
We traded in our '07 MCS when we ordered Abby and I have to say that the Roadster is much nicer - better ride, more comfortable and handles better. Cuter too! I really like the car.
We also got the large black under-bonnet insulation installed and I highly recommend it. The bonnet is now cool to the touch after running around and I think that will really help the paint. We already had to have the stripes replaced because they had permanent water spots before we picked up the car. The spots had etched through the top layer because of the heat.
From here we are looking at a spray-on clear bra. Tomorrow we head down to the auto body shop to see some examples. The front is so curvy and we want the entire bonnet covered and we had one detail shop quote us $2400 for a 3M bra! I'll let you know what we find. Colorado is very rough on the front of cars because of all the gravel on the roads - especially in winter.
Miss Abby is a great car and we're looking forward to many years together.

Franny -- BEAUTIFUL Roadster you have there. Love that polar against the blue exterior, it really is stunning! Congratulations on your new addition to the family. Many happy miles up and down the mountains of Colorado!
Thanks everybody!!
Yesterday we took Abby down for a spray-on clear bra. There is only one shop in Denver that does it. I'll report back on how it turns out. I think it is basically several coats of clear coat, but they have developed this formula and process over several years. The plus is that there are no lines and no stretch marks. Also it is 1/2 what a shop wanted for a full hood 3M bra. We have so much rock and gravel on the roads here you have to do something if you want to drive on the interstates. Another cool thing is that it can be sanded and buffed several times. Our other car's nose might be protected, but it is super dull from all the hits and I'm going to have to replace the film to get it shiny again. It is a bit of an experiment, but we'll see...
Thanks again for all the nice comments! It really is a sweet car. The ride is so much nicer than the last MCS. It sure is hard waiting for the break-in period to be over!

Yea, I've never owned an automatic... Although, I did get to drive the Porsche PDK in a new Boxster and it was pretty darn cool! Still, I just can't imagine not rowing through the gears

Sharp pictures, up on Hwy 128 looking toward the wind research farm?
The color and interior really pops out, nice option on the steering wheel.
Now a bit lower and maybe some outstanding new wheels, NM, OZ.
Really sharp as it stands. More pictures as you can.

Spray-on Bra!
Hi Don,
Yup, there is a great place to take some photos up there on the south side across from the RC glider area. The windmills make a neat back drop. I have to get all the kids up there for some family shots!
I have something to report! We got the car back from the spray-on clear bra place - Chip Magic in Littleton. It really is amazing! There are no lines and it is hard to even tell they did anything until you feel the edge of the stripes. It also adds a bunch of depth to the shine of the bonnet. They did the entire bonnet, bumper and mirror covers. They can shoot any painted surface.
I think it is pretty much multiple coats of clear coat, but they have honed the formula over several years. I have to say, it sure looks great and, since it was all disassembled to paint, there are no masking lines anywhere. The major advantage is that it is tougher than the 3M film and can be re-sanded and buffed several times. It has the slightest bit of hazing you can see only in the strongest light and they said we have to wait about three weeks for it to cure a bit more for the final buffing.
Cost was about half of the quote we had to 3M the entire bonnet, bumper and mirrors.
Another cool thing is that it covered up the stripes so we don't have to worry about water spots or stains. They will stay like new for a super long time.
I'm really glad we got that insulator installed under the bonnet. The hood is cool to the touch and should help all that coating to last and last.
We did finally get the car up over 50mph for the first time on Saturday in I25, but, fortunately we didn't get to test their work
Can't beat that shine!
I *tried* to take some photos, but it is really hard to get the camera to even focus.
Oh, we have a little bling on order from the dealer ship that will get installed in about three weeks as well. Looking forward to that too!

Installed a Platypus
Hi All,
In Colorado we are requited to have a front plate and I'm not too fond of the plastic one from the dealership that are drilled through the bumper so I installed a "Platypus" mount from CravenSpeed. I did a review of it on their site that basically said it is a well built product, but needs a little love for the R59.
The attachment post is too short so I use a bronze bushing as a spacer to push the plate out a bit. Otherwise the plate screws could contact the bumper. Also, they should include some stainless washers. I made a trip to the Hardware store and that was solved. Finally, since the hole for the tow hook is round, I got a large rubber grommet I had to cut a bit to fit, but it sat right in the hole when all done and will help keep water out of the bumper and gives a more finished fit (as if anyone would really look behind the plate).
I did use some green loctite (blue is probably the best choice) to keep things from loosening up. I had to mount the plate off center a bit (there are several holes to mount it through) as gravity will work to loosen it.
I think it turned out well.
