Those rims do look great Steven. Are they 7J or 7.5J, and is the offset 35mm or 45mm?

Hi Alan,

As I remember, mine went right on, the holes being already there. I purchased mine from ECSTuning, and they provided all the necessary parts. I do recall us snapping in the inserts, from there it was twist the quick release fasteners and done. I'm wondering why your Roadster doesn't have holes in the sub-frame? Hmm.

Steven and Alan, maybe I can help, The ECS Tuning kit GP 2 belly pan comes with the extra hardware for the install. If you just get the GP 2 pan its self from a dealer or anyone else , they don't know about the hardware not being pre installed.

You should have all the holes, you just need the extra hardware. PM me and I can help you out.

Thanks Steven for the quick reply. There are holes in the sub-frame, thankfully. The problem is that I don't have any inserts to place in the holes and the parts manager at my dealer (where I purchased the pan) isn't able to find the part (nylon insert, I think).

Your reply helps, in that I think I'm on the right track. I can't wait to get the pan installed for some "smooth runnin' "

Well clearly I should have ordered the GP2 Under Pan from ECS! That being said, the shipping to Canada and import duties held me back. I really appreciate your help with this, and the photos help a great deal.

Would it be too much to ask if you have the part numbers for the attaching hardware?

So…after installing my 17"Conti DWS's on the new Enkei EV5's, I realized something. I really prefer the R59 with 18" wheels. One of the objectives with a new wheel/tire combo was to try and find a lighter weight 18" wheel. I selected the RSe 07 wheel for it's combination of light weight (18.5 lbs), and what I consider its clean, modern design. I think they suit the R59 JCW quite well.

The next consideration was new all season rubber. This was not a difficult decision, given all the press Michelin has been getting with the Pilot Sport A/S 3. This tire is the current benchmark for an all season, even surpassing some dedicated summer tires in both wet/dry grip, and stopping distance. After getting these mounted up and taking the car for it's first drive, you quickly notice the incredibly quick turn in of these tires. The steering is so much more alive…and that's saying something in a Mini. I also noticed a small performance gain with this combination over my summer set up. I shed nearly 7 lbs. per corner in unsprung weight

I take it this is your winter setup?. If so I don't think you could get a better light weight high performance setup. Let us know your thoughts once the cold really takes hold. I just installed Pilot Super Sports and after about 400 miles am really happy with them. I will switch to my truck soon and park my mini for the winter. Based on your response to how these work I might want to bring my roadster out in the winter. Just don't like getting salt on her. As well as all the rocks they spray on the roads where I live.

Thanks, I didn't want to start rambling on not understanding your question correctly. Surprisingly, they feel very similar to the 17" Conti DWS's I had been running during the winter months, which to be honest was unexpected. The Pilots have a stiffer sidewall than the DWS, making turn-in crisper, more feedback as well. I wouldn't recommend this setup for someone looking to make their Mini ride better. For me though, I'm trying to sharpen the sword and build on the already terrific handling our cars offer, while still keeping it a daily driver.

Yes, this is my winter setup. I have driven the Pilots in the wet (fantastic grip), dry (you'll swear you're on summer tires), and in mid to high twenty degree weather…they continue to shine. The only part of the puzzle missing right now is snow/slush. I suspect living in Chicago, that test won't be far away…
I'll post again when I've driven them in the white stuff.

Yes, can't wait to hear your thoughts. Would love to limit how much I drive the truck this year. You haven't spoken much about the NM's. How do you like your rims and how light are they?.

 

Sounds like a perfect set up.

 

It's nice you have the option of your truck…when things really pile up, I have a lifted Jeep I jump in. Having said that, I prefer driving the R59.

I'm super happy with the NM RSe07's. They weigh 18.5 lbs. The weight savings was felt, the Mini feels like it is reacting quicker to all inputs. They required very little weight to balance them, which I'm always watching for. The finish seems good, we'll see how it holds up to the salt bath I will subject them to. I did put a coat of wheel wax and then a coat of JetSeal 109 on them.
