My JCW Coupe will be my third MINI from my dealer (plus the FIAT 500 I bought from the same auto group) and I have all my work done there. I've established a good relationship with them through the years individually and as a liaison to my local MINI club. And I've sent several friends there who bought MINIs. So I've negotiated a discount from MSRP (on top of the $750 from MINI USA). Plus, they know I will talk them up when people admire my MINI on the street or at the various car shows I attend. Works to both of our benefits.

I was able to order my JCW coupe at MRSP. Still don't have a production number yet. I was quoted 2-3 months.

$2k-$3k premium? so you basically have to bribe the dealer to get your order placed.
I'm in CT and will let you knw what the dealers out here say. Might be the same, who knows. I dont mind waiting a couple months for the car, it will give me time to sell my '06.

That's a review? Not very concise, precise or complete if you ask me.

And I still say the Brits need to improve their roads!!

As for roads, try SoCal.

The comments about the road actually first came from a Brit. As I understand it it's a fact of life. (Not my problem though and apparently not yours either. LOL)

I still think the review was superficial and not very thorough!

FYI just spoke to 2 CT dealers, 1 in MD and another 1 in NJ and they all said that they do not charge a premium over the MSRP. The cars are selling for the MSRP but no extra $ tacked on. Anyone have advice on options that are not needed or worth the $ and what options are a necessity? JCW or S????

The comments on these reviews always bust me up. Can't believe how many folks really hate the Coupe. Wow!

I'm sorry, but if you can say that the Scirocco looks better than the Coupe, there's something really wrong with you. That car is just butt ugly IMHO (and I've been in love with VW's for nearly 3 decades now).

And what's up with the silly Brits calling it a Coop-A??? Too funny... What dorks they are (and I'm British!). Back to eating my crisps in the boot of my koo-pay while the bloke sitting next to me is reading with a torch.

Is that how the French pronounce it too? Coupé...

From Wikipedia:

In Europe (including the United Kingdom), the past participle French spelling, coupé, and (mostly in English speaking countries) a modified French pronunciation (/kuːˈpeɪ/ koo-pay), are used.

I negotiated with the sales manager, who is a great guy. I am getting money off from MSRP and the additional 750 fro Motor-tober. The dealership is one of the newer ones in my area. They have been great to work with and I think they know I will be sending many customers their way. They know my auto purchasing history - Land Rovers and MINI's over the past years. I'll be buying more from them in the near future.

Funny thing about that is when you move outside the MINI universe to normal people who don't like the traditional Cooper variants, their minds are blown at the look of the Coupe. I work with a BMW kid who hates MINIs and he hadn't bothered to look into specifics when I told him which MINI I ordered -- until yesterday. He was pretty much at a loss for words.

Let the MINI purists have their upturned noses... the rest of the population is far larger, and their appreciation will drown the haters out.

For me... The more basic the better. I've learned my "loaded up" lesson over the years.

The only "must-have" options on the Coupe for me are:

1) JCW Package

IMHO, the JCW aero kit and the JCW wheels really make the look of the Coupe. Also, this is one of the few (if not the only) options that MINI offers that is actually worth the asking price. Every other option is just a ridiculous rip off. $500 to $1,000 for metallic paint. Come on now!!!

2) Xenon headlamps

And that's it!

Glad to hear that you can get MSRP without a hassle on the East coast. Apparently, it's much different on the West coast (at least in So Cal anyway). Now the real question is what's the best production slot (i.e. build week) the dealership can offer you? It would really suck having to wait until late January or February for your new Coupe to get built (if you can at all avoid it).

EDIT: Oh, and it's probably worth $100 for the rear fog lamp just to fill in the toggle switch bank.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:VW_Scirocco_TSI.JPG At least in that photo I like it, not enough to tempt me away from a R58 though. The earlier generations were more angular than I like.

Agreed. The Scirocco in that photo looks much better than the one in the video. Perhaps the new Scirocco is like the Coupe in that it doesn't photograph all that well and looks much better in person.

I have to highly suggest the cold weather package being that the user is in the NE. In MN, our dealer orders all of their stock cars with it and you'd probably have to be firm if you really didn't want it.

Agreed. Heated seats are really nice, but hard to swallow at $500. Ouch! The cold weather package at $750 is a tad bit eaiser seeing as you get the heated power-folding mirrors as well.

I'd have to agree on your must have options. I included all those but added a few others to add to the fun factor for the car. Had to have cold weather , no fun in the winter without it. Mini Connected just seemed like it would be something to have a little fun with.

Skip the factory Navigation.

I've said it before, but charging the same price ($1,500 to $2,000) for the two leather seats in the Coupe as all the other four-seat MINIs is ridiculous.

I don't have an iPhone so would never order MINI Connected but I did order the USB/Bluetooth option to be ready for future technology to connect with my Coupe (even though it's overpriced at $500).

I agree about the JCW Package. If I hadn't ordered a JCW Coupe, I would definitely have ordered it. It's nearly worth the price just for the wheels.

I saw the new Scirocco a couple of years ago when it was launched in Thailand. I thought it was pretty awesome. Rear visibility is a bit compromised, but the same it true of the Coupe of course. If VW had bothered to put it on sale in the US I may well have bought one. But because they think it either wouldn't sell or would steal sales from their ugly GTI they refused to sell it here. So their loss is MINI's gain.

they told me production would be in Jan. but since the weather gets pretty rough here in the winter I wouldnt be driving the coupe anyways so the 3 month wait is not an issue for me.
i would def do the JCW package, heated seats, not even sure I want leather for $2000 more, do like the black headlight housings though and was told that there is now a matching leather dashboard option (dont need that). for me this is not a luxury car, its a sports car so I agree that less is prob. more.
