Question Handling quirk

Trying to figure out if I have a problem or if its how the R58S coupes handle, I've only have the car a little over a month. On spirited curves if you hit a slight imperfection ( Small pot holes, breaks in pavement the tail gets all un-settled.. My R53 did nothing like this, and with Tail of the Dragon coming up in a couple of weeks want to be prepared, or if I need look to see if there's a problem. Not using run flats;
Thanks in advance, Greg

Not right, and not cool I'd say. Particularly headed for the Dragon.

I'd get out the fine toothed comb and go looking at the chassis.

I'd be paying attention to shocks, bushings, and fasteners - at both ends, 'cause the front could unsettle the back in some cases.

What tire pressures?

Cheers,

Charlie

What year is the car? I would check/replace the rear trailing arm bushings, rear shocks, and front control arm bushings. If the wonky handling is only happening when loaded in a corner, one or all of those items could be worn.

Of course, it could be the quirks of the chassis...

If it was previously owned, it may have been modified.

Did you have the alignment and suspension inspected?

I'm second owner, bought from a Mini/BMW dealership. Supposedly went through inspection, riiiight! No mods at all. I'll look it over as ya'll suggest, I know it would never keep up with my R53 in handling. Its a 2013 with 58000 miles, would hope its not worn out. Mini has the car right now for an oil leak they found after I bought the car, I took it in for the mirrors folding on their own and switch not moving them back. Got a nice new 2019 convertible to drive while they have mine. $37,000.00 no thanks, but I'll drive it.

I own a 2013 Coupe with 17" runflats. Given the same scenario, my car will "bump/jump" outward, centrifugally -- away from the inside. Is that what you mean by your tail getting "all un-settled"?

I have the same problem. Hit a corner and basically bounce into a drift if I hit a bump. Too much on the throttle, into a drift. I blame the run-flat garbage tires 100%. Mine's a 2013 with 35k on it. Stock except for a JB+.

If you bought it from a dealer and they put new tires on it, they would have put factory replacements, which would be the hard, loud, garbage run-flats.

Replaced the factory rims and Continental tires it came with. Now running a 17” rim and soft(300) compound tire. See if that changes anything. Shop visit found no problems in the rear suspension. Also may do a review on how the tires hold up .
Forceum Hena 215/45-17. I know not Pirelli but see how much bang I get for my buck lol

I had the same feeling in my R56. Changed front and rear struts to Bilsteins. Took care of the skittery ride after bumps. The stock Mini struts are terrible.

I was able to solve the same problem on my 2015 coupe when I discovered that there are four rubber screw adjustments inside the boot lid....not just two. Have you noticed this? The service dept. at my dealership didn’t even know it. I just had to play with adjusting the screws a little until the rattling was completely gone. 😊
