R58 Dash top oval vent removal

Hello to all R58 enthusiatists;

Need to remove the center oval dash vent, located on the top center of the dash. I wish to install a Garmin 5.0 LTM navigation system. Went to a Stereo install place and they tried using a removal tool but it did not budge with the force they were using.
Does anyone if the dash vent is removeable?

Thanks for your help.

If it is anything like the R56 then there are two screws that need to be removed. There are youtube videos on how to do it.

yeah there are two screws. To get to them, you need to remove a plastic piece on left and right sides that looks like part of the rest of the grill.

You need a new install shop.

Update on Garmin 50 DriveAssist install on center dash vent.
Hello All:
The center vent on my 2015 Coupe S, was easily removed, thanks to Comrade Cerenkov and General Specific tips, this allowed for the Garmin 50 DriveAssist, to be solidily affixed to the vent, and then replaced. Power accessed via center speedo. No suction cups or wires showing; back up camera signal is received via Bluetooth. Made for a very clean install. The Garmin 50 is like having a co-pilot. Highly recommend.

So there you go.

Photo of Garmin 50 DriveAssist Mounted on Center Vent

Hello All R58 Owners:

Here is a picture of the Garmin 50 DriveAssist, mounted on the Center Dash Vent of my 2015 Coupe S. It's a slick install, no exposed wires. Audio tech, obtained power from behind the large speedo. In the background is a statute of Richard H. Dana, author of "Two Years Before the Mast"; Dana Point Harbor CA.

I like this install more than the official Mounting Kit, without doubts.
Really.
And my official mounting kit was installed 24 hs ago

Which is the hardware involved to get it attached inside the dash vent?
I have the power source connected to the OBD port with plenty of cable to reach the dash vent (if it is possible to reach it going under the dash).
It is the GPS unit still removable?

Your pics reminds me of the Garmin aftermarket that is installed in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta dash glove box

I like things that are done right, with work and with effort.
No problem

WmEsq77,

I'm ready and waiting for your instructions

I assume you had to make a hole in the grill and mount a special GPS bracket with screws inside the vent.
This is correct?

Looks pretty slick. I never use my GPS anymore it's been alone in the boot for years. Dana Point eh? I think we stayed at a Ritz Carleton there years ago. Pretty good beach down below. Back when I was using GPS lol!

Hello All: Wmesq77 here, sorry for the delay in getting back to Miniuy, and others with their questions concerning the Garmin Nav install. Been real busy filing my tax extension. The audio tech who did the install, fabricated an "L" shaped bracket, and attached it directly to the vent; the other end to the Garmin. I hear you already "Where's the F&*%in picture", will try and post it tomorrow; where he got the juice I have no clue.

So there you go.
