2012 R58 purchase and questions

Hi all
good to be here as I purchased my second mini with N14 engine (first one was countryman), car is a 2012 and manufactured Nov of 2011, 22k current mileage and is a blast to drive. & Now I have 2 2-seaters with a FWD and a RWD and pretty happy with all weather conditions

My question is does the timing chain tensioner issue still exist in 2011/2012 vehicles? Most death rattle issues I can find is for cars before 09 but no news about mini did anything to improve it afterward.
Anything else major to watch as the vehicle is out of warranty?

I have a 12 R58 fJCW, just keep on top of the oil level.

Congratulations for your purchase but I hope you bought an extended warranty to protect yourself.

The most common issues I read about the N14 engine on this board are related to the timing chain, thermostat housing and various oil leaks from engine seals, some being expensive to fix.

It is reported all the problems were solved with the N18.

N18 in the 2012's. My 2012 MCS has 92k miles since new. Replaced thermostat at 88k miles, high pressure fuel pump at 47k (under warranty). Doesn't use oil between changes, 35'sh mpg.

Congrats on your purchase. You should be fine with the 2012, just keep the oil well maintained. Here is a handy service and maintenance guide, and please feel free to ask any questions. Welcome to NAM!
