N18 Fan/Thermostat Issues

Evening All,

Been doing a lot of reading about the Thermostat issues on the N18 engines and have already suffered with it after owning the car for less than a week

This is our 4th Mini2, previously owning an R53 Cooper, and 2 R56 Cooper S's which had zero issues in the time we owned them!

So today Cooper MINI in Reading changed my thermostat to cure the issues with the 'Fan run on issues' but I'm still not convinced things are 100%

The tech told me that it's a single speed fan now on the N18 and that it will always come on when the aircon is used and it's warm outside. Thing is it comes on more than it's off it seems and when it does, it's extremely loud. In fairness the run on no longer happens but it doesn't take long at all for it to start spinning up if the aircon is used.

I suppose my questions are:

1) is it a single speed fan? I know the older engines had multi speed fans.

2)is it supposed to be on so often?

3)is it supposed to be so loud it sounds like it's going to take off?!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers

Paul

Do you hear the fan turn on and off intermittently when the cooling function is on? The same thing seems to be happening with my 2011 MCS but I never thought it to be related to the thermostat. Mine happens only with the cooling function on (the snowflake button, thats the name given in the manual). I just always thought the A/C needed a refill of freon.
