Need help please going to buy a 2012 coupe S tomorrow

Hi so I'm planning on buying up a 2012 coupe S tomorrow. It has had one owner and has 41,000 miles on it. I test drove it and wow was it a blast. It all seemed correct. My question is to you coupe owners is, are these hard to take care of and are they reliable? Anyone else purchase a used 2012 coupe s? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. I would love to join the family just wanna make sure these cars are reliable and fairly easy to take care of. Thanks so much. Also will parts be hard to get since they are not making these cars anymore?

As a JCW coupe owner personally , you have the 2012 with the N18 engine, so not that much of an issue.

On the coupe the roof stripes on the early ones can fade.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rotection.html

The rear hatch can need adjusted as it can creak. Heard it one some, once the dealership adjust the latch it will not creak. Other then that , its been a blast. Make sure the rear deck is set into place and so is the second deck on the trunk side is. Most people dont set these into place right and the rear sounds like a rattle.

Clean out the rear drains under the rear wing. They can get clogged with leaves and stuff. Also keeps the water from freezing if you drive in the cold.

Other then that is been a very nice car.

Thanks much for the info. Do you know if parts will be hard to find since it is not in production anymore? Also how often do you need to check your oil in these babys

Welcome,

We have them all. Checking the oil on the n18 engines is not so bad as they tend not to consume that much oil as the n14. You can do it once a week to once every couple weeks, dependent on far you drive. Just to make sure you don't have a oil leak or anything. Reading the distick can be a little hard at first, if you are not used to it. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3639300

What is really good , change the oil every 5-7,500 miles and inspect the whole engine every time. Thats a good rule of thumb on oil leaks or other issues. The oil service clock might be set to 10,000 miles oil changes , just reset it after each change. Then change it when you get to 5,000 miles left or 2,500 miles left. If its set to 15,000 miles, just subtract of that. Our oil changes kits also have sticker for the windows as a reminder.

Yes,

The only one that had an N14 variant was the JCW in 2012 which I own.

You will be fine. I am always here to help on maintenance, I do it all the time,. had three MINIs at once for a short time.

Lol nice. Well thank you I appreciate it. The only thing I'm worried about is the factory warranty has expired so now I have to get a maintenance plan for it

One more quick question. I'm purchasing this 2012 coupe s from a Mercedes Benz dealership. Should I take my coupe to get oil changed at a mini dealership?

Or you could do the oil change yourself if you have the tools. We have everything you'll need for your Coupe HERE.

If you are not oil change savoy and dont like the independent euro shop, you can take it to the dealership. I would find a independent shop if you want to save money outside the oil changes as service can be pricier. Get the kits from us and then have the indy shop do it. Make sure they know and work on MINIs.

You need to buy an extended warranty to have piece of mind, so another 4K.

Why not to look at something newer with OEM coverage?

Wow looks nice with those MINI wheels, not seen to many Coupe's with the anthracite ones.

Congrats on joint the R58 family. I don't care what anyone says R58 are just as rare as GP's.

They are quite rare, unless you live by a big city or get one from across the country, especially the JCW version. It was hard to find one with the options I wanted also.

Hey guys thanks for all the love. So I'm 6 days in to owning my coupe and I just can't get enough of it. Can anyone point me towards a set of DRL lights for the fog lights? And what are some of the best exhaust to throw on my coupe S? I love the stock exhaust too though, so bad *** for a stock exhaust

Re: Exhaust

After much research, listening to YouTube videos, etc. I've decided to get the FJCW exhaust and get it welded on.

This is not the JCW exhaust that's an upgrade for the MCS. Rather it's the FJCW exhaust that's a replacement part for the Factory JCW cars.

Relatively inexpensive, nice sound, no drone.

There are a couple of threads here about this exhaust on a MCS.

The Factory JCW exhaust mod is what most people like before they look at aftermarket version.

its here:

Sound is better on the JCW or Milltek in my opinion.
