Is it black or is this a darkening filter overlay?

Dealer told me they would probably be black. The build tool showed it as black as well. I am fine either way.

They're black on my 2015 S Coupe. I like it!

It's it always the way? You could only get the black set after spending another $4000 plus dollars on the JCW package. Now they're giving them away.

From the MINI website JCW page today:

"GRAY BACKED SPEEDO
With an exclusive gray faceplate, the center-mounted speedometer in a MINI John Cooper Works model goes to160 mph."

As I try to justify getting a JCW, stuff like this where the JCW "exclusives" get whittled down makes it harder. The "JCW Interior" option is sad as well.

Saw a 2015+ R57 MINI Cooper Convertible and it has a Dark Gray faceplate and tach. It looks lighter gray then the R58 JCW Coupe ?

Also they have the factory LED DRL option of the CM / PM now but its not as bright or good as the DRL LED Retrofit Kit.

DRL LED kit. Retrofit.

VS

Factory Ordered DRL / fogs ( Ordered)

thanks

I talked to the guys at the dealership. All 2015 Models have the black tachometer and speedometer.

I also asked them what the cost would be to order one so I could do it in my car... You wouldn't believe the outrageous price for this piece of plastic... $485 approximately, and that was with a DISCOUNT.

R59 DRL's for 2015

Hi Doctin
The factory fit DRL’s are now a lot thinner circle of light than the retro fit units. The retro fit units looked a wide/bold circle compared to the new units, as to the brightness they are I think a little more intense. I have had both, had the retro fit ones on my last R59. Must say I prefer the factory fit one’s as the thinner circle highlights them better in the daylight. More like the BMW headlight unit’s you see. Also attached a picture of the interior, now JCW Black dials standard. Much better look for sure.

Its a viable alternative. However, I was just hoping to get the ones that didn't look aftermarket.

OMG! they messed up your steering wheel location . . .

It actually does look better in context

Hi Doctin
The New factory fit DLR's are narrow/thinner than the retro fit kit one's. I had the retro fit one's on my last roadster and they are a bold/wider circle. New factory fit DLR's compared to the retro fit kit are as bright, and now more defined visually in the daylight being narrower, giving a crisp/sharpper look.

I have a 2015 R57 Cooper S Convertible and my gauges are also Dark Grey just like barmy bee's.

No special options selected. Supposedly all 2015 R57's have the dark grey gauges. They look really cool!

Yea, the retrofit kit seams to be brighter and a little more purple in color on the ring. More intense I think.

While I have not seen the retrofits in person, I can tell you the factory LEDs are very bright in DRL mode. In the photos above you can see that while the retrofits are on with the main lights off, the factory LEDs are on with the main lights which means they are running in a much lower brightness and mostly decorative mode.

The factory DRL is a ring all around the actual fog light housing made up of a bunch of LED's going all around. When the DRL's are on, all the LED's are illuminated and it is very bright.

When the headlights are on, only the top four LED's in the ring are illuminated as they serve as the 'parking lights' or 'city lights.' Essentially, the LED ring serves double-duty. The ring does glow because the four LED's still pass enough light to illuminate the ring but it's not like having the entire ring of LED's lit up.

Pics coming soon.
