If you can live without the airbag and JCW badge, you can get the Recaro CS, which is essentially the same seat for way less money. I've driven a MINI with both the CS and the factory JCW: it's essentially the same.
As this is in the R58 category, I would say watch out! I bought some JCW Recaros to put in my R59 and they weren't really suitable:
- The lowest of the two installation heights of the Recaros is about half-way up the stock seat's height range, so you cannot get them anywhere near as low as stock seats (which already isn't really low enough).
- The R59, and I believe the R58, cannot be coded to accept the passenger seat which doesn't have an occupancy sensor, so you have to go through the resistor bit to try to trick the ECU into thinking an occupancy sensor is present.
- I was bit shocked to find that after a couple of weeks of using just the driver's Recaro seat, my back was starting to complain - the side grip is simply wonderful but the back support is surprisingly poor.
The height issues was what killed it for me and I'm only 5'10". If I was somewhat shorter, I might have kept them.
