Any difference in 2012 and 2013

I am thinking of getting a JCW Coupe again and had a 2012, the first production year. Did they improve in 2013? Any changes?

In 2013 the JCW switched to the N18 motor. Some say they have less problems and less carbon build up.

I'm sorry, I just had to open this thread because of the heading. I also had to slam my fingers in the file drawer to keep from typing some smart a** remark that I really wanted to.
Now...back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Sorry 'bout that.

The thread heading 'Any difference in 2012 and 2013' begs for comments about world or local news developments one year to the next, things the grandchildren learned how to do, how the recovery from saying the wrong thing to your wife is going...you know, things having nothing to do with the purpose of the forum. Just the wording of the thread inspired a whole world of 'difference' possibilities. I just can't resist rising to the ironic or the juxtaposition if it can arouse a smile, chuckle or outright guffaw.

I see...I thought I missed something that was so Mini obvious. I have owned 10 Minis in my lifetime and know a lot about them, but seem to learn something new every single day on here!!

The engine...... nothing else. I am now at 4K and I cross my fingers I will be free of the N14 engine issues.

I think other then more interior color options. Its just the engine on the JCW models. In 2015 they got the factory DRL / Fogs.

Oh and I believe ate the middle to end of 2012 they started putting insulation under the hood on and off.

I have a 13 JCW HT, and have found the N18 engine runs much cooler than the N14. Did the Mini Thunder track day, and didn't have any of the excessive engine compartment heat others seem to have. Hood never seems to be too hot. This alone should mean the engine will last longer.

On the newer under hood heat insulation, yea the cover up the non functional scoop. Also to give it a little protection for the heat on the scoop so it will not warp.

I don't have this insulation mat on mine. May be it is part of the cold climate package.

Does it help to reduce engine noise or just keep the engine warmer?

It keeps the heat from damaging the paint on the hood

Based on the old knowledge it was for hood stripes, to keep the engine heat off them per the etk ( yellow / darkening and pealing ). And it was possible to make the engine bay quieter and help the hood scoop issue.

My 2012 Roadster had factory hood stripes and a full insulation blanket.
