R58 Suspension Advice
Suspension Advice
I have a 2013 JCW Coupe. I had assumed when buying the JCW car I was also buying the JCW suspension, wrong. I know absolutely nothing about suspension other than I want better than I have. My car is not a daily driver so a little stiffer ride is not an issue. That being said I don't want it to feel like I'm driving a stage coach. I'm looking for a street setup that can also be functional on the occasional track day. I would prefer something that is not super technical and require allot of maintenance. From what I have read so far I am pretty much set on an HSport rear sway bar. I would like the car 1-1/2" lower and handle like a slot car. I would also like to keep the parts at around $1500. Looking for advice from members that have been down this road with a Coupe.
A sway bar and springs ought to meet your requirement. There are several springs out there that you will want to research that can get you to, or close to 1.5". Unless you do coil overs, shocks like Koni Yellows might also be advantageous, but either option will push your budget to the max, assuming you are doing the work yourself. Sway bar and springs only, paying someone to do the work will be within the budget I would think.
I have Mach V Motorsports (www.fastmini.net) springs and a 25mm
hollow rear bar (Hotchkiss) on my R58 JCW. Couldn't be happier and
the price is in your range.

Thanks Guys. I should have been a little more clear. I do plan on having a mechanic friend do the install. My budget for the coil overs / shocks, and springs is what I would like to keep around $1500. I already have an HSport sway bar.
For that price. Your best bet would be Koni yellows with NM springs. And maybe rear lower control arms if purchased on sale, you should be under your set price and have a great handling car. Also don't forget a good alignment. The NM springs come with good alignment specs.
I have a similar budget that I am now saving until next spring. I feel its getting too late in the summer and there will only be 2 more AutoX events in my area that I will make, so I am going to wait it out. I also have the Hotchkis RSB so all I need it the springs/struts, rear lower camber links (depending on how low I go).
I've been looking at the B14 coilovers from Bilstein. Lifetime warranty is hard to argue with.

That's my setup with lower control arms. For looks, I have 10 mm spacers on the rear. I just switched to 215s from 205s and the ride is much better and the wheel well looks better. I'm not real sold on the tires I got - Kumho 4X - a little squirrely for cornering. At least I'm blaming it on the tire, not the size.

That's the main screen, if its the factory part #, you know that fits from that manufacturer then you are fine.
We just have not updated the site. It has been updated now.
Thanks

I know I'm partial, but I love my Fortune Auto setup and highly recommend looking into it. For just over $1000 (depending on your custom setup) you can have a full coilover setup with custom rate swift springs, built-in camber plates, dampening adjustments (F+R), and they come with the front endlinks you need. Once installed I had mine professionally setup with corner balancing, ride height, and just the right amount of stiffness for street and track. I soften the dampening up a bit for street and click it up about 6 clicks for track.
I have the H-Sport Rear Sway, Control Arms, and the NM Strut Bar. My Fortunes are custom Swift springs (upgrade), roller bearings (to prevent noise with spring binding on turning at slow speeds, and rear dampening adjustment arm extensions (upgrade).
Still riding on stock 17's and needed 12mm spacers to fit and longer lugs. Overall I couldn't be happier and been riding on it for 2 years now.

Thanks zcast. This is exactly the setup I am planning on since seeing your car a few weeks back. As a matter of fact one of the pic's of your car is my screen save. I tried to contact 2 dealers in Portland last week only to find they have gone out of business. Will try again tomorrow to find another dealer to place an order with. My hands were tied by the wife until Oct when I receive my next quarterly bonus.
However she did allow me to up my budget enough for the parts needed.
We have the same car and color combo so I know exactly how mine will look before hand.
