Proud owner of a new JCW Coupe

I am new to this Forum I discovered through the recommendation of a customer of mine who is a Mini independent shop in Canada.

Three weeks ago, I believe I may have bought one of the few remaining 2013 JCW Coupe still available in USA. The dealer told me the JCW will not be produced anymore in this body style. The car had 22 miles on delivery. It is bare bone with no options aside from the Lightning Blue Metallic paint and white turn signals and armrest. I installed a few interior upgrades as JCW floor mats, carbon fiber shift **** and hand brake.

My questions are as follow:

1-Is the JCW Coupe a rare model and does it maintain its value?

2-How do you open the trunk from the inside without the key fob?

3-Can I expect to do better than 22 mpg city driving? The actual mileage is about 250.

4-From the onboard computer, how do you access engine data as oil pressure and temperature while driving?

Overall, I like the car but the consumption seems to be excessive. On the first tank of gas it averaged 15 mpg. Is it normal?

Welcome to the MINI family! We'll look forward to some pictures!

1) Both the MINI coupe and roadster are among the lowest volume MINI models since they were introduced in 2012. The JCW versions are an even smaller portion of these models, so yes, they are pretty rare. ( I haven't seen any JCW coupes in my weekly drives into Chicago for almost a year). I expect they will hold their values since they will no longer be produced ( in their current R58/r59 versions). Like any car, it depends. on condition, miles, and fur ute unknown demand. Enjoy driving it, and don't spend much time worrying about it's future value!

2). You can't open the trunk (aka "boot") from inside ( except for the emergency trunk release mandated by the feds).

3) I get 30+ mpg with moderately aggressive driving in city/highway combined. ,Your milage should improve after break in. All in all, depends on how you drive it, city vs rural, etc.

4) you can't get info on oil pressure or temp from the on board computer. However, there are OBD port plug ins available and can show temp, boost, and other info, and can display on a separate gauge, or on a smart phone, etc. Search several threads on NAM and options should come up.

Best wishes, Sent from my iPad using NAMotoring

Congrats:

1. The JCW versions of the R58 Coupe and R59 Roadster are the rarest.

2. Like above. Outside only. Unless the emergency pull.

3. Depends on how you drive, drive its not like the racecar it is and you should be 30+ , but its hard not to drive it fast

4. You don't have Navigation or the MINI Connected so P3Cars has the VIDI gauges and its very cool. Plug and play, matches orange/red display. Tells you most everything and reads and clears codes.

MINI P3 Cars Digital Vent Gauge R55/R56/R57/R58/R59

thanks and enjoy your new JCW Coupe also called the R58/

Welcome to the rarest of MINIs!

Agree with all of the above and an addition to # 4 is the Torque app on android phones or Dash Commander on Apple phones. Will need an OBD 2 bluetooth or Wifi
respectively as with the phone platforms.

Smile Thanks to all of you guys for your Welcome reply...........

I may had a senior moment when I bought that car but my wife is not too much concerned for now.

My son living in CA and not visiting often may be when he will know about it because it is now the "Family" car. The 2011 Infiniti G37 is gone and the other car in the garage is my wife's 2012 Fiat.

I am 60 and I believe I deserve to drive what I would like to remember as small sports car I own back in the 70's until two years ago.

I have been privileged to own a fully restored 1965 Austin Healey MK III, !949 and Buick Riviera.

As corporate and personal cars over the years, I drove new Cadillac, Corvette and infiniti.

In 2001, I bought a showroom original 1972 Datsun 240Z I drove and maintained to very strict OEM standards until I gave it 2 years ago to my son.

I may have some sports car madness. My JCW is really bare bone with no options, no stripes.....nothing but it is a Coupe. When I sit in, it feels like a glove as the 240Z was.

I feel that I may be a bit crazy. My neighbors????

They say nothing for now. They believe I behave OK but the "family" car is really strange.

Congrats. I too am in the rare r58 family. I actually
"Rescued" mine from a dealer who had had it since early 2013. I just got it on 7/31/2014. It's was sold as new. Just basically a year old. Bare bones also. Just the way I like it. It does has stripes Bluetooth and H/k radio and challenge wheels.

Enjoy it. Drive it. When it breaks, fix it and keep driving it. I just drove mine 2 1/2 hrs too Atlantic city. Wish me luck !!!!!

You said that you drove on a trip. Since the car is brand new as mine, what has been your mpg average?

From the onboard computer, I am at about 19 mpg city/highway driving but I have not even 300 miles on the car since July 23.

I was getting 22-24 in the city. With light hwy as work is only 14 miles in traffic. Coming down to ac. I was getting 28.5. But I was cruising at 75i+. I bet if I drove at 65 I would get 30. It just to much fun not to use the "go" pedal.

Only have just under 700 miles so it's too early yet. I'm guessing at a 1000 or so everything will be as it needs to be and averages will be more consistent.

I'll be lucky if I get 13 MPG. I drive with a lead foot. /SPORTMODEON

Welcome to the rarest of the Mini models. I've had mine since April, it's a 2014. I get about 24 mpg driving in town, and not conservative driving. My 2007 MCS got about 29 in town. Gas is cheap. This is a $40k car for godsakes, who cares? You want good gas mileage, buy a friggin' Prius. I love this car (and I loved my MCS).

I'm going to be biased and say yes lol.

I have a Coupe S and am trying to figure out how to soften the blow going up to a JCW lol.

I don't think you can go wrong with a JCW anyway you go.

The R58 version after driving the R56 does have a more planted feel, maybe that just me.

I understand what you mean but I don't necessary agree.

My Infiniti G37 was a more powerful and heavier car and was about 18 mpg in town. The JCW is a four banger. I just hope I will be able to do about 26 mpg because I am a conservative driver but I need to know I have the power on tap if I need it.

For now the car has less than 350 miles but the mpg seems to improve. I am at about 16 mpg in normal driving.

You are right, the Coupe is even more comfortable and the suspension and handling is far better.

It has to do with the body structure being tighter with more bracing as a two seater and better aerodynamics.

I drove a HT for a few days and I feel the difference.
