Speedometer Calibration

Hay all has anyone been able to get their speedometer calibrated. I asked the mini dealer in Escondido and the service tech said " oh their all like that, mine is off by 6 mph and they are not adjustable". This doesn't sound right to me?

Improve the speedometer accuracy...

...by buying bigger tires! I did so and cut the error amount in half (from 4 MPH too high, down to 2 MPH.) Putting Michelin 215/45/17 on my MCS instead of the horrific run-flats that were 205/45/17 changed EVERYTHING about the noise level, ride quality, handling, jarring and twitchy steering over bumpy roads. It now sounds like a more normal car; I can finally hear the breeze, music, pleasant exhaust note, and it feels much more compliant. And, the Pilot Super Sports are a delightful handling experience. On longer trips I throw a full sized spare upright behind the rear seats. For more local driving, 150 miles or less, I will call AAA for a tow home or try my tire repair plug tool.

Speedometer Calibration

Thanks
I will do the larger non run flat tire. The road noise and wheel jerk is also an issues. Thanks for the info.
If anyone has heard of or has had a speedometer calibration please give me a heads up. Now I have heard that the BMW's also have the same issue. Come on the ultimate driving machine doesn't have an adjustable Speedo?

I've read that NCS Expert will let you adjust the speedo. I haven't tried it yet but it is possible.

I remember when Volkswagen had to adjust owners warranties because of overrated speedo's.

If you guys would employ the search engine you will find this issue discussed quite a bit over the years. The 2 to 3 mph difference is there on purpose. It isn't an 'error'.

My Paceman is almost spot on with 245/45 18's. Basically the speedo's are calibrate to 25" tires on the R56 and to 27" tires on the R60/61.

Kind of silly, on purpose or not. I'm used to driving cars with accurate speedos.

true, and btw, the "on purpose" is in response to an EU law that a motor vehicle may not travel faster than it's speedo indicates ... violations result in large fines PER VEHICLE in violation

I have too, but for me speedo deviations have never been an issue as long I'm not going faster than indicated.

I'm here at the Dragon and Helix is providing the reprogramming for the "Speedo Overestimation" that's what it's called it will reduce it back to normal 2-7 mph. They are charging $20 at the show here in North Carolina. They are located in Philly

post the results tiger, i have heard that it only changes the digital display in the tach and the center speedo will still show the error speed

i oversized my tires from the stock 25.9 inch od to a tire having an od of 26.9 inches and both speedos are spot on with my aviation gps that reads in .1 mph increments

i went from 225/45R18 to 225/50R18 which increased od from 25.9 inches to 26.9 inches, the original intent was to protect the wheels from pothole damage with a taller profile sidewall, the accurate speedo was a pleasant surprise

my winter tires are 205/70R16 on mini oem 16 inch alloys and have an od on 27.3 inches ... these cause my speedo to read .6 mph under my actual speed (i am going .6 mph faster than the speedo says)
