R53 Speedometer Replacement

Bringing this over from the modifications area.

Hey all,

I wasn't sure how else to title this as I've had very little luck searching for parts. I want to get a gauge cluster above the steering wheel that includes the speedometer. I found the picture below that has a replacement for the speedometer area in the center dash. What would I search for to find things like that? Also, any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply! I found that part, I was referring to the center dash replacement where the speedometer would normally be. Looks like the picture might have a gps or some digital gauges.

Opps sorry. That's factory Nav, mine came with the chrono pack. Here try this.

Awesome, exactly what I needed. Going to put that on my wishlist. Are there any after market things that can fill that space?

Here's an example with a Galaxy Note: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-sort-of.html

I've seen described online a few successful retrofits for the complete Nav or Chrono Pack system, but none of swapping in just the dual pod gauge (it's been attempted but not sucessful). The problem is that the speedometer is not a standalone unit. Its circuit board also controls the rest of the dash instruments (tach, warning lights, odometer etc), and it must be integrated with the computer module in the footwell. Here's a discussion about swapping in the Nav: http://www.mini2.com/forum/first-gen...m-sat-nav.html

Yeah, I just started doing some poking around and found that there are issues with the chrono/nav swap. I might opt for an aftermarket speedo/tach combo gauge (if that exists), and do one of these DIY replacements for the middle dash speedo. Might have a bit more work in front of me than this guy, but I have some good ideas! Thanks!

Would something like this be able to replace the stock tachometer? I do not have the chrono package, I only have the single tach above the steering wheel. I'd have to find the proper size and mph, not kph, but just want to know if it's doable. Thanks!

You can certainly add that gauge. Whether you remove the existing tach is up to you (you'll also lose its indication lights and display).
