I read that. It makes sense to me. Other than the cool look what does the Coupe/Roadster have that the hatchback/cabrio don't have? I think the no back seat cuts out a lot of the younger buyers who may want one occasionally for friends. I think those with kids go Countryman. The only part I don't get is that BMW knew all this stuff before they decided to make the Coupe. Maybe it was just a 3-5 year project from the get go. The Paceman is sort of a dog IMO.

I am not surprised. I wonder if this will happen this year?

No roadster or coupe and I'm gone. Would never purchase a mini product again.

If the coupe is discontinued, do you guys think it will become a "collectible", thus raising its resale value?

Collectible? Perhaps not so much a collectable right away but eventualy yes.
One thing for sure would be the fact that those Coupe and Roadster owners would instantaineously become members of a very exclusive Mini Cooper club and while their value may not skyrocket, their exclusivity will make those few available more desirable among collectors or enthusiasts thus keeping their value up in comparison to the less "exclusive" Mini Coopers.

Rumor: BMW owns the Triumph marque. There has been speculation that they may reintroduce a reincarnation of the Triumph sports car. If that were to transpire, there would be no point in duplicating efforts with the MINI Roadster and Coupé competing against it. I owned a TR back in the 60's, except for the 'Lord of Darkness' (Lucas), it was a blast to drive.

I have a good feeling it will become just like the Bmw Z3 coupe; a car not many wanted when new, but now is highly sought after and has retained its resale value...
