Passenger side foot rest?

So what's with the passenger side foot rest? I called my MA before I ordered the WeatherTech floor liners as the website had an option for a foot rest so I didn't want order the wrong ones. He said he would look into it and let me know if the Coupe I ordered had the foot rest. He called me back and said they had no idea about the foot rest and said to order the ones without the foot rest option so I did. I got the WeatherTechs a week before the Coupe arrived and guess what I found on passenger side? A foot rest!!! So I will now call my MA tomorrow and let him know he cost me $100 for the wrong floor liners.
Anyone else run into this issue?

you can pull the foot rest out, alot of people have been on here doing that. Plus it gives you more foot room too.

I did pull it out and the floor liner fit fine but i was really wondering what it is all about. I've never seen it in other MINI's.

MINI released something a while back stating it was put in place in order to help the passenger in case of an accident. You should have a larger glove box as well. The foot rest is supposed to help angle the body more ergonomically in case of an accident. The glove box i think was made larger to reduce the travel of people knees smashing into the dash upon impact.

Well I guess that makes sense. Thanks for the info. :-)
