How Often Is Your Spoiler Going To Be Up?
With the switch does not count! It has to be speed activated. 50 MPH or greater.
For me during the week not often. When it rains no. Snow no! But come the weekend the better question would be "When will it be down".

Ouch that hurts. LA traffic. You gotta head north and east my friend. Get in them mountains.
Well my Roadster will never see snow. It will be garage bound from late November until the snow melts, That is why I will be keeping my crap-tastic Honda Accord Coupe.

My car will be parked for the better part of the winter as well. I have another set of tires for it. I have aftermarket wheels on my Mini now that are not going with the car when I trade it in. Those are staying with me. So I will have some wheels with new M&S tires on them that will go on the Coupe in the winter. But I anticipate driving the GTO most of the time. We rarely get snow in the Seattle area. Mostly just rain and rain. Did I say mostly Rain??
But we do get some real nice clear sunny winter days and the summer tread that comes on these cars is not good in cold weather. Thus the wheel and tire change.

Judging by the pictures on-line...no. The wing mechanism and all things associated with it add about 12lbs to the car and are fairly bulky, and the space the roadster rag top will take up, there's no room for the wing unless you completely got rid of the trunk. So it's either a trunk or a mechanical wing. The whole trunk unit on the coupe opens as one piece all of the way up to the roof of the car, and since the roadster doesn't have that....no wing.

then again...if you look at the concept pictures of the Coupe...neither should it

There are MANY spy pics that show the pop up spoiler in the up position. Here is just one of them.

What kind of information are you looking for? I thought the story pretty much lays it out.
The spoiler on either the Coupe or the roadster will be actuated electrically based on speed. Over 50 MPH and the spoiler deploys. It is necessary for the car to handle properly at speed. (According to the Motoring file article.) It is not an option and I would assume it is bolted on. It would not be taped on.
The way your question is worded leads me to believe that you think that the spoiler can be bought as an option and then installed on the car. It's not. It's a stock part of the car that is not an option. You cannot buy it aftermarket and put it on another car or another Mini.

According to the MINI Coupe catalog I have from Germany, there will be a FIXED JCW spoiler which will bolt on and disable the pop-up spoiler. I'll check it tonight and translate what it says about it, if anything.
That's unique if it's available in the US.
I'm trying to understand why someone would do that? What is the advantage? Wouldn't that simply just add weight? Seems also that you would have to have some programming to disable the pop up spoiler and or connect into the wiring harness somewhere which would then tell the pop up that the bolt on was there?

You can see a rendering of the JCW Coupe Spoiler here:

Reportedly this blocks the standard spoiler that raises at 50 mph but gives the car even less rear lift.
I'd assume that before installing the fixed spoiler the original retractable one is removed. Advantages being less weight, for racers it is a sure thing to be there all the time, etc.
I'm not a fan of the looks of the spoiler, but from what this review says it is functional.

I read the add.
Maybe I'm slow but I still don't understand who the customer is? If you buy a Coupe with the spoiler why would you buy a spoiler that is bolt on that prevents the spoiler that you have already on your car from deploying and works better to boot? (Did I say that right?)

Because i think it may give the rear of the car a different look. I have not seen the car except for pictures, and am not jumping for joy on the apperance, however i like how the JCW Spoiler changes the rear end.Just noticed you have a Chili Red Coup on order, what color is your roof?Q
