I'm guessing, similar to my former Mercedes, that US market cars were all sold without a spare?
I see that the cavity is there, but is the hardware also present, if you wanted to add a spare? I picked up a plug kit today, as I've gotten a low tire warning twice in the last week [just found the tiny nail yesterday]
But, unlike my Mercedes, the Cooper actually has room for a spare, vs the MB way of just putting it in a bag in the truck & losing a ton of cargo spare [which the R57 is pretty lacking in already].
Anyone added a spare? And will any of the full size factory options fit? Or are you limited to a space saver donut?
I've got the 16" 5 spoke wheels, so I'd guess I'm pretty well situated for size options.
**If you have JCW brakes or any other brake clearance issues, this wheel can be switched out on the rear and the good wheel can be placed on front.**
Most people get a spare and bungie cord in the boot. But you have to watch as you have a convertible and top down you dont have much room. I have seen people get a hitch and mount the spare on the bike section bracket on the hitch kit.
The R55 Clubman also had the
compact spare well (base, S and
JCW), but if you have anything
higher than the base, you may
need to buy a few parts to have
the same functionality.
Looked yesterday & I have no hardware in the spare tire cavity.
A couple coated bolts/studs & what looks like a square plastic/rubber plug in the middle
I'll try to grab a couple when I can get away from my computer for a few minutes
IMO, looks like the car was never configured for a spare, as delivered.
Here's the spare cavity.
Just those 4 studs on the bottom of the toolkit cavity in the trunk, and the square-ish plug/cover.
Drain plug is removed to allow water egress with the still [less] leaky rear window.
