apologies if this has been asked, Ive tried to search but dont get a answer to my question.
I have recently bought a 2009 Cooper S JCW Cabrio and have bought an aftermarket Android head unit. Install went ok but the problem is I do not get any sound coming from the headunit. Am I missing something? Do I need to drop GBP 200 on MINI HKEnabler Kit | For MINI Gen 2 in order for this to work? Or is there another way.
Once again apologies if this is a mass asked topic.
Hey man, I'm having a similar issue with my R56. Do you have pictures of the back of your radio, your stereo connector harness, and the harness connector of your head unit? Been trouble shooting for almost a week now and I can't figure it out.
I don't have a photo as its all fitted and working now. After much tinkering and fiddling I found the culprit to be the blue remote wire. My harness didn't connect the 2 blue wires which meant the amplifier didn't turn on resulting in no audio.
If you can post a photo of your wiring harness I can assist.
Hey Robsta! Thanks for the reply man! So, after messing around with the connections last night, I ended up plugging in the RCA 12 pin connector that had a blue wire (the amp wire) hardwired to the harness. I have sound!
Now I'm trying to figure out where and how to wire key 1 and key 2 so that I can have steering wheel controls.
My steering wheel controls worked out the box, the wiring harness that came with my radio was plug and play in that sense. Have you tried coding the keys via the head unit itself? You are looking for a screen like the one below:

Yea I've tried setting up with that screen, it isn't working for me. I will try a couple more things and see if it works, but I think it is because the Key 1 and Key 2 cables aren't connected from the head unit on to anything... So I ended not using the cable with the 4g sim card slot, rather the other one, then I took the fan connector and tapped it into it. I am wondering if I should use the 4g sim card cable and just tap the blue amp cable onto something else. TBH I don't really care for the aux mic or the sim card, the stock mic sounds good according to my lady and I'm not expecting to use a sim card ever....
It sucks you paid more, but to be fair I probably searched for 2 weeks before buying. I wish I was better at electrical stuff lol
Honestly, I am very happy with my unit - fitted a decent reversing camera and couldn't be happier with it overall....
The back of my unit had the same cables below, I'm not quite sure I understand which key 1 and key 2 cables? Are they within the (2) bundle below? If I remember correctly, I could either plug in the RCA bundle or the sim card bundle which I installed in mine.

Here's mine:
Look at the connection that reads "power cable" on yours. It has KEY 1 and KEY 2, and it shows the steering controls there. I'll get some pics in a little bit so you can see what it looks like in person.
By the way, does your unit get hot to the touch? I am certain I have the fan plugged in and all. I'm sure it's because I'm just in the garage with the car off/no a/c
