Confusing convertible and trunk troubles

Hi, complete noob here with a 2011 MCSC I've had a scant 2 weeks. Gawd, I love this car!

But I've had some issues since first test driving it. I wasn't sure I had the sequence of putting the top down and up at first, but I think I've figured that out.
Now I have a new thing. Can't open the trunk via the remote, or with the actuator on the door. No sound, no nothing.
I've tried it with all doors unlocked and top up and down.

I've opened the trunk by way of the emergency pull in the interior, by going through the back seat. That works fine and I checked the releases inside the trunk, as well as the button that the tray pushes. All seem to be okay and the top is working fine. Trunk seems to close solidly.

Before I got the top figured out I had a couple of times that it didn't open fully, or something, and I had to go back and forth a couple of times. I also got the "lock" dash light a couple of times. Don't know if that's related...

The remote operates the locks and alarm just fine. What do I look at next? Is the actuator/switch/button for the boot on it's own fuse?

I bought from Carmax so they'll fix it, but I don't have a dealer nearby to check it out.
Little help?

Thanks!
HFG

I would have them take it to Century MINI or Hendrick in Charlotte to have it fixed. Give you a loaner.

Yeah, Carmax isn't going to pay for me to take it to a Mini dealer. And there isn't a Mini dealer or a Carmax near me so I'd rather not take it anywhere, unless it's to the local Mini Specialist. I'll do that if I need to.

But with some practice I can now consistently open the boot with the key fob. I guess I was holding it too long or not long enough before.
It still won't work with the button on the boot door itself though. Not at all.
Think that switch could just be bad?

Yeah, Carmax isn't going to pay for me to take it to a Mini dealer. They'll insist on servicing it themselves, which I would do but they're not close to me either.
There's a good Mini mechanic, (so I'm told,) but I haven't called him yet.

Anyway, I got it to work with the fob. I can now consistently open it via the fob. (Wasn't holding it the required 2 seconds, in fear of the 2.25 second alarm going off...)

But the button on the boot door doesn't do anything. Is that a big deal to replace?

It seems to be a fairly common issue with water ingress causing the damage, you can either replace the part or repair it yourself (basically soldering a new micro switch)

Thanks. One other question. I am assuming that since I can now open the boot with the fob, the latches for the boot lid and the switch under the tray are in the correct positions, or it wouldn't work even with the fob.
Do I have that part right?

That sounds correct, The switch under the tray is just a position sensor for roof operation (i.e. you can't retract the roof if the parcel shelf is in the high position).

Found my link on how I did the repair: https://www.mini2.com/forum/second-g...t-opening.html

FWIW, Carmax did replace the switch and a couple of other bits I didn't even know were missing. No charge and they were really helpful about the whole thing. Filled up my tank for my troubles too. I know they build that into the prices they charge for the cars, but I gotta like Carmax.
Everything's working like a charm now.
