Stalling

Good morning all. 09 57 started stalling this morning. It has happened before but went away. Acceleration started being poor and would stall at stop light. I had to put in neutral to keep running. It has been acting “jerky” recently and more pronounced this morning. CEL had pulled an O2 sensor couple months ago but ran fine. Going to put fuel cleaner in tonight but I always put 93 octane in. This is 150,000 auto transmission. Does not stall when idling as shown in video. Any input greatly appreciated.

I believe one of the causes of stalling and O2 sensor faults could be the timing chain being stretched and your timing out. Only sure test would be actual observation of vanos limits using a live OBD2. Has your chain been replaced recently? It could be slapping about in there waiting to cause you some grief.

Not sure what’s been replaced. I had oil filter housing replaced as was leaking oil. That was $585 😒. Im willing to bet belt wasn’t changed. Is that a big job? Does engine need to come out?

Not an engine out job but fairly big and expensive. Can be done by a reasonable DIYer. Check youtube videos for R56 timing chain replacement, few guides there. e.g.

I love mine too... but man BMW needs to chill on the price for parts... If the car didnt cost enough to build that it warrants a 70k price tag.... it should cost the same to fix as a 70k car that does.
