So, how many hours have you been topless for?
Picked up my Mini on Thu 4/17/09 with 3 minutes on the Openometer and at 5 miles, possibly from the factory.
As of 4/21, I'm at 5 hrs 45 min at 298 miles.
...
As of 6/4, I'm at 36 hrs 58 min at 2,351 miles (JCW Engine Tuning Kit Installed).
...
As of 8/7, I'm at 110 hrs 43 min at 6,138 miles. (JCW Sport Brake Kit Installed).

Picked mine up 04-06-09 I have about 8 hours on mine, although for most of those 3 weeks, we either had bad weather or I was gone from home. I have put 6 hours on in the last week, and here's hoping the top can stay down from now on.
Houston weather has been good for topless driving. A little rain but the temps have been great. We are at 46 hours so far. I reset the meter every tankful and the last tank was over 9 hours.
8/3/2009: Just broke 100 hours today. Topless in 100 degrees F is a little rough. I guess I can do it and put the "Open to Anything" Blistering Sun sticker on my dash. The Arctic Chill will be tough thought.

I wonder....is there a point when it changes from hours to days (or weeks?). I'm in Seattle, so I might never get passed "Minutes"

- The OpenMeter. That little gauge to the left of the RPM. This one counts up from 0 hours 0 minutes, to a maximum of 6 hours 59 minutes. After that, it resets it back to zero automatically.
- The on board computer has a trip OpenMeter counter as well, and it's matches the OpenMeter gauge however it continues to count beyond 6 hours and 59 minutes unlike the Open Meter.
- The onboard computer has a lifetime counter, that cannot be reset to 0 without dealer help. This one record the topless hours and minutes since the Mini was born.
Like some other folks, I always reset #1/#2 every time I fill up. This way I can record the number of topless hours/minutes for each tank.
Hope this helps.
I have read at least five different articles or blogs about this on various websites, and read Mini's brochure, but your post just made it more clear than any of them. Thanks!
A lot of people think this is a dumb gauge, but it has a lot of practical application for me personally. I am fully aware I'm going to have several friends giving me the business about getting a convertible in Seattle, and it's going to be an interesting exercise to have concrete data on how much time I actually take advantage of it.

I picked up my Mini on 04-06-09 and as of this morning 05-21-09 I have been topless 38.39 hours. Luv that Georgia weather, can have the top down almost all the time.
Zanary thanks for the info about the onboard computer and how we could find out how many hours we have logged with our tops down. I had given up trying to keep track until that little bit about the onboard computer.

Since 4/7/9, I've been driving 2791 kms.
The average speed is 42.2 km/h.
The roof has been off for 51.11 hours.
Now, some calculus :
51 hours x 42.2 km/h = 2152 km topless.
(2152 / 2791) x 100 = 77% of the milage topless...
I love French Riviera

OK, so now that we're all discussing our Topless Hours, I was thinking:
Scenario #1
If you were to drive 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, all topless, you would have 2919 hours recorded a year. Since the Openometer only goes up to 9999 hours and 59 minutes, you would be able to reset the lifetime counter on our R57 in about 3.5 years
Scenario #2
If you were to drive 3 hours a day during the week days, and 4 hours in total over the weekend, a year all topless, you would have 1196 hours recorded a year. Since the Openometer only goes up to 9999 hours 59 minutes, you would be able to reset the lifetime counter on our R57 in about 8.5 years.
Neither is actual real world numbers as we have to deal with our even changing seasons, but it's still interesting to see how long it would take to reset the lifetime counter.

The onboard computer does average speed? Is it lifetime average or just trip average?

If you never reset the average speed and the average MPG, then they are for the lifetime of the car. I was unable to determine how to reset both until recently, so my show the averages from when the car was born.
I like the fact that the regular reset **** on the RPM gauge doesn't reset these two items.

Anyone pass 100 hours yet? Just curious, as the earliest Mini Convertibles were from March 2009, so 4 months have gone by, and 25 hours a month would equal 6 hours each week for a total of 100 hours. So it's possible.
Just wondering if anyone passed that mark yet?
