Convertible configurator up!

Looks like several changes to the premium package and several new wheel choices on the sports package. Time to play before my order is due!

Alarm and chrome line interior and exterior is added to the Premium package (in lieu of a sunroof). Bike prep is added to the Convenience Package (not available until March 2009 builds).

I built mine this morning.. holy KRUT! $35,050 for a Cooper S Convertible in Horizon Blue with a smattering of options.

I built a MCc also in Horizon blue. (love the color). Wow!!! 25 grand for a MC convert, with no options??? The same car in a hard top is just under 20 grand. I'm not sure how many of them they will sell, given todays economic climate. 5 grand just to go to convertible. I couldn't justify it.

On the plus side, I did notice horizon blue is also available in the configurator for the hard tops.

THe hardtops went up a bit when they were redesigned from gen1 - gen2. Also, the Cooper Convertible comes with 16" Wheels/Run Flats as standard equipment. That was a $750 option right there. THere are also other differences I cant remember off the top of my head

Anybody else disappointed with the "S" color options? Especially with the interior restrictions depending on what body color you choose. My wife and I couldn't get excited about any of them.

I wish the anti-theft feature was a stand alone option. I have a venomous dislike for them countered by a strong desire for the Premium package. Anybody know if it is something that can be turned on or off by the dealer?

And before someone points out that auto theives dislike anti-theft devices, therefore.... I don't like them because they are a pain in the butt, they go off and drive the neighborhood nuts, especiall while I'm trying to putt and nobody goes on a hard point and calls the cops anyway, so what's the point?

How about this configuration:

0913 Cooper S Convertible
A95 Interchange Yellow
FKE8 Interchange Yellow Cloth Leather
ZCW Cold Weather Package
---313 Power folding mirrors
---314 Heated mirrors and washer jets
---494 Heated front seats
ZPP Premium Package
---249 Multi-function steering wheel
---302 Anti-theft alarm system
---345 Chrome line interior
---346 Chrome line exterior
---534 Automatic air conditioning
ZSP Sport Package
---2RU 17" alloy wheels, black star bullet
---522 Xenon headlights
---5DT Dynamic Traction Control
---785 White turn-signal lights
226 Sport suspension
2TA Limited slip differential
318 Interior body color
319 Universal Garage Door Opener
322 Comfort Access system
405 Door mirror caps in chrome
431 Auto-dimming rearview mirror
473 Center armrest
4A7 Color Line Dark Grey
507 Park Distance Control (rear only)
521 Rain sensor and auto headlights
5AA Rear fog lamp
609 Navigation system
620 Voice activation
653 HD radio
6FD MINI HiFi sound system
6NE Comfort Bluetooth and USB/iPod adapter
6UH Real Time Traffic Information

Since the Convenience package isn't available until the late March builds, the above itemizes out each item that make it up (excluding the bike rack prep), and it turned out to be $250 more.

The above is around $38500. Add on the JCW Aero kit, and you're looking around $41000 I think.

Would you consider a BMW 1-series instead? I think MINI increased the convertible prices a bit too much.

I did take a very quick look, but for a similar configured 1 series, the price was over $45K. That's above our budget, and coming from a 99 Z3 Coupe, I like the feel of a small car.

Love the new color Blue and the brown.
I was surprised they discontinued the Sidewalk package.

Money is no object.

It's that gen 2 interior that kills it for me, including the silly "openometer."

Truth be told, money is a factor.

Fortunately I still love my previous incarnation of the MCSC.

I built one just like my 07 MCc and the cost was close to 30k, only paid 25k for my 07. I think the look of the cabrio is really nice but just think a 5k increase in price is a bit much. Now if I build the car the way I want the cost is over 40k, for that money I would consider a 1-2 year old turn in BMW cabrio. The Mini BMW dealer that I go to for service has them for between 30k and 45k depending on what you are looking for.

Wow, so the price to add the convertable top is $5k now? Wasn't it about $3k before? That's a pretty big jump if that's true. Too bad there's no JCW factory version of the Cabrio offered. I'd guess they'd sell some of those babys.

Ive been searching and searching for any news of the factory JCW mentioned a few times by motoringfile.com and mini2.com forums, but nothing solid. I wanted a factory JCW but looks like I will end up getting an R57 with the JCW kit. At least thats available for launch.

You can always skip the package and order the individual items you actually want. On my '06 cabrio I skipped both the Premium and Sport packages because each had something I didn't want, but I separately ordered all the other things in the packages. Yeah, you give up the package discount but the final cost should be similar because you've dropped something out.

According to one of the bulletins the dealer received (I quoted the bulletin number in one of my previous posts), the JCW version will be made available around the April/May timeframe. I guess this means if you put in a custom order at that time, you'll get to order the JCW version from the factory.

Are you referring to this? It doesnt mention anything about a factory JCW. I dont see any other bulletins posted by you.

from Zanary:

I decided to go through all the information I received at the dealership, and here's the interesting part. In Bulletin #: PB-12-17-08 there is a paragraph stating:

Quote:
Now remember, each dealer will receive at least three HEA cars whe the car goes on sale and two of them will be equipped with MINI Motoring and John Cooper Works accessories - one Cooper and one Cooper S. These accessories, which are different for the Cooper and the Cooper S will be port installed for your convenience.

Sorry. I must have forgotten to add the part about JCW to my original post. I don't have a scanner so I can't place a copy of the actual bulletin, but here are the details (exact copy from the bulletin) pretaining to the JCW.

Bulletin# : PB 12-17-08
Source : Mini Product Planning
Name : [removed]
Phone# : [removed]

MINI DEALER BULLETIN: R57 ORDERING AND PRICING GUIDES RELEASED
--------------------------------------------------------------------
GEEZ, IT TOOK US LONG ENOUGH!

As promised, here are the finalized R57 ordering guides and pricing sheets. Ordering will start in January for March production and at that time, you'll be able to place and modify orders. All areas of MINIUSA.COM will be updated by January to coincide with opening of allocation for Cooper and Cooper S models. Pricing and details for the John Cooper Works models will come later. Look for production of these special variants to start in April 2009.

Now remember, each dealer will receive at least three HEA cars when the car goes on sale and two of them will be equipped with MINI Motoring and John Cooper Works accessories - one Cooper and one Cooper S. These accessories, which are different for the Cooper and the Cooper S, will be port installed for your convenience. More details to come from the Aftersales team.
Then there's a few paragraphcs that talks about "Noteworthy R57 Options" and how they affect the R55 and R56 (ie. wheel selections, etc...).

The important thing to note is the date of this bulletin (Dec 17th 2008), and things may have changed between now and then but back in December they did indicated that the JCW will start in April 2009 (with July 2009 delivered I guess if it takes 90 days to birth one).

Awesome! Thanks for posting that. It's the first solid piece of evidence I've seen of the factory JCW. Time to question my dealer since I've been hounding her for information about the JCW models and havent heard about this.

I am a MINI Motoring Advisor, and I can tell you that none of us have any information about a JCW convertible. I have a client who just ordered a 2009 MINI cooper-S convertible, with just about every option, and every JCW option. The total price will be well over $50,000 with installation of all the JCW parts. There probably will be a JCW convertible soon, but nothings been disclosed to us. I am going to the MINI factory next week (leave Tuesday for England) and will see if I can find out anything there..but until then don't get your hopes up about waiting for one, as it probably won't happen anytime soon.

PS..I'll take some pictures of the Crossman I get to drive around the test track along with the challenge car.
