Remote question...

Is it really true that the battery charges when it's in the slot? There are no metal contact points on it. And I assume if the battery is taken out of the remote the car will still start if it's in the slot because the chip's still there, right?

I am pretty sure that it does charge while in the slot. I believe that I read that on another forum here, but it'd be impossible for me to find it. (I am not 100% because I am still waiting another two weeks for mine!)

The dealer told me that aswell. But if you use only one key, eventuall the 2nd key fob will go flat. Thats why there is a key in the fob.How it works i dont no.

from what i know, the key fob battery is disposable. A low battery warning flashes at the tachometer display when battery is low

According to the PDF manual, the remote has a rechargeable battery and needs to be put into the slot at least every six months.

However, the remote for the Convenience Access package has a replaceable battery and does not need to go into the slot.

There doesn't need to be metal to metal contact for a rechargeable item to charge. Panasonic shavers use an induction charger that is plastic on plastic. If the MINI key recharges it is probably the same method. My car is in the Panama Canal area and I am getting the convenience package so I don't have an owners manual to consult yet.

Sorry to hear that your car fell into the canal.

The manual is available for download in the Your MINI section of the Owner's Lounge of MINIUSA.
