Out of curiosity what were you backing up to? Does the display actually show the the shape of the object behind you?
There was a bush approximately the width of the car and about four feet tall that I was using as the test subject. That is why the warning lines are uniform.
When I backed up with the bush off more to one side, then the warning lines also shifted to reflect that.
As you move back closer to the object, the warning sounds become more desperate. The pace quickens.
Thanks for posting the images. I was curious about that.
The first image looks like it is deploying a parachute. The third looks like it has farted a rainbow.
Hey guys, thanks for the info on the Parking Distance Unit, I will be sure to point that out to all my friends, that is ,the rainbow effect . Maybe it is exhaust gasses burping from the turbo.

Do you do stand-up comedy? That's really very funny .. Farted a rainbow indeed.
P.S. I was too stuborn to pay that kind of bucks for the Nav system and then a few hundred more for the PDC. But when I see pictures like yours I truly wish I hadn't been so stingy. Looks great! And it totally eliminates the pie plate effect.

I thought long and hard before deciding to opt for the navigation system and the PDC. It was a lot of money for the navigation but I also didn't want to have to constantly put in and take out a portable unit.
This is my first Mini so I don't have any feelings one way or the other on the size of the speedo. With the navvigation system, however, it seems to be the perfect size. I'm also glad that the PDC graphics show on the screen. There was talk the U.S. version of PDC would be audible only.
I thought after seeing my photos, you were going to say you wished you had opted for mellow yellow so you could have the yellow colorline and the contrasting piano black colorline.

No, it is all sit-down.

I really debated the NAV. The two things that swayed me were:
1. Avoiding the Big Ben size speedometer.
2. The PDC.
It was the PDC that really tipped the scales.

Do you have more pics of the yellow colorline somewhere?
