R56 Bug Guts
Bug Guts
There is a saying in the motorcycle world that you can tell a happy motorcyclist by the bugs on his teeth. Well, I think you can say the same for MINI drivers by the bugs splattered on the windshield.
I drove my new MC home yesterday. 250 miles of conservative driving. But I did get my fair share of bug guts anyway. I am a happy MINI driver
Averaged 36.55 mpg (that’s 6.43L/100km for European readers).
A few of comments:
- I’m a conservative driver. Not that interested in trying to outrun everything that moves.
- I can certainly understand the interest in having an S. But don’t exclude the MC without giving it try to see if it has enough power for your needs. Power wise I found my MC does just fine.
- I think it is going to be a very nice highway cruiser. But I am also looking forward to some fun roads like Beartooth Pass (near Yellowstone).
- You might have to shift down a gear, or even two, on long steep hill climbs - but it pulls fine in my opinion and has no problem keeping up with traffic. My drive was almost all above 6000 feet where there is definite horsepower loss as altitude increases (that concern probably doesn’t affect you pressurized induction S owners much though).
I’m a bit too embarrassed to post any pictures right now until I get the critters cleaned off
MC, SS/W w/W stripes, Cloth, 6M, Cold, Premium, Sport, Dk Grey Colorline, A/S tires on bridgespoke, armrest.

Congrats on the new Cooper!!! I really like rowing the gears (part of the fun) so the Cooper is a great match for me, too.
Now about those bugs (and semi-OT)...I'm planning to install a clear bra on my Cooper when it arrives...it helps a lot w/ excess "buggage." Trouble is...the local installer has never done an R56 and that scares me a bit. We'll see how this turns out because I will not be his very first install!!
