Sad day for my 07 MINI...

well here's the story

i was driving up this hill (which has a signal at the top of the hill.

i am going east bound up this hill and in the morning (7:08 am) the sun is nice and bright at this time and it is quite difficult to see through

so as i'm getting closer to the signal at the top of the hill (need to make a right)

i am blinded by the sun for a second or two

and by then crashed into a honda civic (which also had bumped into another 4dr sedan

my airbag deployed, and it was just unbelieveable

MY NEW MINI THAT I RECIEVED LESS THAN A MONTH AGO IS ALREADY IN AN ACCIDENT!!!#@!#@!$$#%^@$#

I felt like i was going to kill myself

i was going around 25mph and i thought my whole front was going to be gone... but it happens to be that it was only a crack in the bumper (approx: 4 inchs long... I say only because the impact seems far much greater than the damage)

the honda civic dr (2003), had a smashed and falling apart bumper and trunk wouldn't close and the car actuallly hit the lady infront of her

(the lady infront of her didn't seem to have any visible damage, maybe besides a scratch here and there)

and i was amazed how well the mini protected me.

i walked out fine, just shocked, the lame thing is that,, while i was trying to stop the HOrn from constantly going off... i gave the lady in the very front my license and registration... she wrote it down

and then left... i didn't get her license and registration

and the girl that i hit (the civic) she didn't have her license, and only had her registration at the time. she gave me her phone number which i was able to call back and what not.

and so i'm preety much basically screwed...... sorry to say but yeah my record is by far clean, and my insurnace is now already going to be soaring high... all because i was blinded by the stupid sun... (oh the mph of that area was 50.. so i wasn' tspeeding )

oh man what a day, but for everyone whose buying a mini, and is worried about the safety... i would say.. you should be safe

Ps: does anyone know how much it costs to fix the airbag problem?

not positive but majority of airbag units cost between $1000 and $1500. that sucks glad to hear you are ok though.

What a day! Sorry to hear about your MINI; glad everyone was fine. If you fear your insurance policy will go up a lot you might try to see how much it would cost to fix on your own.

Best of luck and hope you are able to fix it quickly!

The good news is your Mini is good when you need it - in an accident. Maybe this will be the last one it will ever see. Glad you're ok.

so sorry to hear.

in the end, your saftey and well being is far more important than the material things (car)

So to be honest, your luck isn't that bad. You're ok and walking & the car thing will get sorted.

I haven't yet picked up my '07, but I started having dreams about similar events. The parking deck at work crashing onto my MINI, the tornado coming, the tree limb falling, etc.

It is pretty devastating, but, since it seems pretty fixable, you'll be out there motoring again in no time.

Oh nooooooooo!!!!! Very sorry to hear this, you must be gutted!!!!

I had a wreck in my '03 Cooper a few years back....survived the first evening solely on a big bowl of bananna pudding (it was good and I felt really bad). Hope the days to come bring good news for you and your MINI and that you'll be soon motoring again.

Very sad, but very glad you're ok. Except for the bumper and steering column (airbag), any other damage?

That is horrible, man. Glad every one is OK.
The airbag in the steering wheel will usually run around $1000 and the passenger dash airbag is usually $1500 or so. Not sure about the others.

If you have a good driving record and no previous accidents, your insurance premium might not go up that much.

Glad you put that "might" in that sentence.

There's way too many variables for us to make a prediction on what impact another's accident is going to have on his insurance premium at the next renewal date. It could go up as much as 40 percent. It might not go up at all (perhaps his company has an "accident forgiveness" program and he's earned it through many years of being accident-free).

Having said that, an accident is going to increase your premiums at least 15 percent in the vast majority of cases. Hope you don't get hit too hard, heyjay.
