Why Comfort Access?

My car is coming with the Comfort Access System, mainly because it is part of a package. Am I missing something?? After reading the owner's manual, I can't see any advantage to it and the "possible delay" in unlocking/locking seems like it would be an annoyance. I'd like to hear from those who have the feature. Have you experienced the delay? Do you feel there is a worthwhile advantage to the system?

I am getting it with mine as well and would like to hear from those who do have it on an R56. I keep hoping it will work as well as the keyless thing on our Lexus. If it does, then WOOT!

EDIT: Good topic LynnEl! And if we dunt(tm) get an answer, then I can use it as another whine oppertunity! Ya cannot have too many of those about.

Glad to oblige!

But I have hit my personally set limits for whining today, so it will not happen today. Carry on.

This issue was well-discussed in a previous thread. You might want to take a look. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=95396

Thanks. But that thread went all over the place. I want to focus on the CAS and delay issues.

Yeah, I participated in that thread and it did drift around a bit. Made me dizzy. I am not even sure I got a good whine in it.

I assume you this option on your R56 then?

Actually, I'm not yet on the hook for an R56. I snagged one (an MCS 6-speed no sport suspension with Comfort Access) for the weekend a last month. If I make the move and get an R56, it'll have to be a JCW. And it would definitely be ordered with Comfort Access.

A few snaps of the car I was puttering around in can be found here...

I have comfort access as an add-on option without the convenience package. It's pretty cool, basically, buttons on the door handles to lock/unlock the car and open/close the windows and roof (partial). In addition, because the keys have removeable batteries, they never need to be charged and therefore never inserted in the dash. To me, this is great. Key in pocket, reach out to open door, pushing on the button as you do. Hop in, lock doors and hit the start button. For women living in urban areas, no more fumbling with the key at all, it just has to be in your purse. There is a slight delay if you lock and then unlock the doors, but I've never had any trouble with it.

I wasn't going to prder this package specifically, but since it came on my car (purchased from a dealer lot) I have been testing it. I think it's worthwhile... though not as good as the limited slip differential!

The way I read the Comfort Access, it's like the Smart Key on Lexux and Pruis. I have one (not for my R56 though). You just leave the fob in your pocket. On my Prius, the interior lights come on when I approach the car, then when I grab the handle the car unlocks. When I leave the car I lock it by pushing the rubber button on the door handle housing.

My biggest problem with my new R56 is getting in the car then realizing my key fob is still in my pocket. It's hard going back to the ancient ways.

That is why I ordered mine with it Ken. I am stuck with the Volvo right now, and gave the Wife the Lexus and after 3 weeks I am still walking up to the car and dang near breaking something trying to open the door without unlocking it with the key.

It is surprising how well programmed I am from driving the Lexus. Makes one wonder how much other programming might be going on there, eh?

EDIT: If that sounds paranoid, it is only an artifact of a mind who has been deprived the experience of driving his Mini as it HAS NOT BEEN BUILT YET!!! ARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!! WAAAAHHH!
hehe,i knew there would be a whine somewhere in this thread.

EDIT2: Oh darn, It's not tomorrow yet. OOoops

Oh man Robin. That's so,...so...zen! Now I feel like I should shave my head and prance around clanging bells while proclaiming the minute that passed was not the minute you lost, but the minute that never was. Oh yes.

But then on the other hand, I have to cook dinner tonight.

I love it. haven't stuck the key in the slot yet! Why? It's comfort access. Glad I got it. Very nice convenience.

Not to be a Y zass, but, so far, it doesn't seem like it has much use, other than not having to bother with pushing a button on the remote.

Let's see now .. You opened this discussion with a question. Here's your answer:

I think those who appreciate it are those who would rather not dig into their pocket or purse every time they want to use the car. The only time I have occasion to take it out of my pocket is when changing pants.

LynnEl, trust me on this, The first time you head toward the card, in the rain, with a bag of groceries in your arm, you will thank the diety. which sprung you forth .you did not have to find your key to get in the car.

Then after 6 months and you have to drive a car with a key, you will be cussing the manufacturer of that automobile for allowing such a stupid design to get to the street.

Ive only experienced the delay once since I got the car. Is it worth it? I dont know. My keys used to get lost at the bottom of my purse which is annoying and dangerous depending on where I am. But now that I have the monster fob my keys are always right there on top, never to be lost. Go figure

I can tell you that a day after starting to use Comfort Access, I'm already upset. I came home, parked the car and went to open the front door of my apartment and it was still locked.

I had expected to push a small button near the lock and have it unlock for me.

That's the failure of Comfort Access. None of the other locks in my life kept up with the technology.

A bit OT, sorry, but what happens should you start the car, drop the fob and drive away? does the car just stop?

Someone wrote in some time ago when the question came up once before and said a warning comes up on the speedo to say something to the effect of that the keys are outside the car.

Once the engine is running, the car will continue to run until it's shut off. Then if the driver doesn't have a fob, he or she is in deep doo doo.
