Daily Production Pack

I called ASK MINI today to inquire about the status of my MCS and was told that on Monday they assembled the Daily Production Pack. He said that means they've assembled the parts and production would begin the next time they start running MCSes on the line. Make sense? Any thoughts on exactly what that means?

It seems like this is the sort of thing that would be covered in some thread already, but I haven't found much in a search. Hope I'm not double posting... Thanks!

Yes, it makes great sense, given the wide variety of options. Leather (Lounge or regular... and color). Color line interior; Interior trim; etc... There's no way they can have all the variables "within reach", so they pull the parts needed for a particular car before they start the assembly process. This is of course for all cars produced that week.

Other manufacturers call that "kitting" -- it means getting all the stuff you need to build that order together. Not just in stock and in the warehouse, assembled and ready to bolt together.

Any ideas on how quickly this might go from daily production pack to actually being built?

I understand it to be the week prior to build. So if your car is being built week 15, they will start pulling the parts toward the end of week 14.

My car is scheduled to be built next week. My latest code is 150 (Production Started). Now seeing how 151 is Paint, and 152 is assembly... I would assume 150 is pulling parts. The date of the 150 code is 14 March.

Did you get the 150 code from the web or the phone number? I think I need to ask better questions when I call them.

Neither. I'm buying my car through the military sales program, so my car isn't in the U.S. or German database.

Each MA at my dealer has access to BMW's Extranet, which is where I get my info.
