17'' S Tires

What is everyone getting from the factory for their runflats?

I was expecting dunlops but received continentals.. ride seems ok but missing some traction in the turns.

Are these all season tires or performance?

You should have gotten second generation Dunlop runflats with RunOnFlat technology (EH2+)

Here's a link to a similar question I posted on the MINI2:

http://www.mini2.com/forum/2nd-gen-m...-decision.html

P.S. It's been mentioned elsewhere that what some people call, "summer tires", others use a different term, "performance tires".

Thanks.. I don't believe the Conti's are summer tires though..but I'll reference the model and look them up tonight.

EDIT: I stand corrected...hmm I ordered all season tires and got performance.. can't decide if I'm upset or not.. nobody to blame but myself

Guess I'll be in the market for some all seasons in about 6 months!

I was told by my MA that they come with either Pirelli's or Dunlops, but all the 17's at the dealership had the Dunlops. I like the Dunlops for a couple reasons, mainly because the tire has a 280 traction rating and AA traction and A temp. The Pirelli's have a 140 treadwear. I checked into this via tirerack.

All the cars with 17s that I've seen have the Dunlops as well. They ride very harsh and stiff... are these the new runflat technology? The Goodyears that come with the 16s ride very different.

Got the Conti's also and ordered all seasons. I'm pretty happy with the 17" Conti's myself.

What size are the tires that come on the 17" wheels?

If you read about these on tirerack.com...these are strictly summer tires as well. Look at the tread...definitely not a winter tire :(

When I asked my MA about the difference between the performance tires and the all-season tires he basically said the performance tires were exactly that, strictly performance and would hydroplane. The all-season tires would last longer and be good in the rain, but for snow you would still want a separate set of winter tires, which here in CT is the case with any non-all-wheel drive vehicle in the winter. I could make it through the winter on my all-season Bridgestones, but not without some hair raising moments ...so I got a set of Blizzaks and its almost like having all-wheel drive.

Reelsmith: You and some others have mentioned having a separate set of tires. Do you have a complete alt set of wheels also? I can see switching these yourself if you have a complete 2nd set mounted on wheels, but what if you just have an alt set of tires? How do you change those?

My plans is to use my 17" Crowns as my winter wheels and I will be buying a set of summer wheels, probably ASA AR1s from Tire Rack.

I have two sets of wheels for my current car and do the changeover myself.

The added benefit to having two sets of wheels/tires with an MCS is that if I ever get a flat and can limp the car home I'll have another wheel/tire to put on the car while I get the flat tended to. It will also giving me a spare to take along on trips.
