Kick-down in auto trans

Reading the auto trans section in the manual I ran across Kick-down.

It says 'Kick-down enables you to achieve maximum performance'. It then says 'Depress the accelerator pedal beyond the full throttle resistance point' and then goes to a different topic.

Does this mean by flooring it the trans will shift to a lower gear?

Huh... so my 92 Accord has had a "kick-down" feature this whole time and I never knew it!

yeah, haven't you noticed that yet? I disagree with the max performance part though.

If you were to mash the pedal to the floor, especially when you are coming out of a turn the car starts to accelrate, pauses, down shifts and then skyrockets to redline and shifts again. Hardly efficient. I find its much more effective to just keep it a hair off that kick down level.
