After my MINI was a few weeks old, I did encounter one 'dead' battery (would not turn over enough to start).

We had returned from a ten mile night drive and I had gone back out to the garage to recover SWMBO's CD.

Before knowing about turning HiFi on without ignition, had used fob and start button to turn HiFi on long enough to eject CD.

Don't recall seeing any lights on, but next morning, the little Gell-Cell Battery would not start the car.

Suppose I might have hit the turn stalk, but I just charged battery and have had no problem since.

I had a similar dead battery situation. except for me it was the day after i took it home. I had been in the garage the night before "learning/playing" with the electronics in the car. I didn't turn off the Hi-Fi and the next day the car wouldn't turn over. I connected my battery charger for about 15mins and it started right up. No problems since then... now that I know to fully turn off everything by holding the start/stop button for 3seconds.

The manual I received with my 2009 MCS says not to leave the side parking lights (required by law in Europe...seldom if ever used in US) on too long or it will drain the battery.

Nope, I know about the "his & her" differences. I'm the primary driver, and this one's using the "her" key fob only.

Also the MINI has a failsafe "I'll turn off my battery after 10 min. just to be sure no one drains it accidently". Even the 12V cigarette lighter thing will go off after a few minutes.

Don't worry an leave the light "on" (or on automatic), you should be alright.

I'm still perplexed. It's totally dark both times. Actually we're working on a full moon right now--they put out enough light to just about read by around here! Good to know about the timer, though.

Wouldn't it also "click" double-time in sound? That's what every other car I've had did.

There are also some that are always hot, like the parking (turn signal turn on) and they might kill the battery.
Maybe it's a Euro thing, but the cigarette lighter doesn't stay down when I push it - in fact it takes a LONG time to get hot when I hold it down. Any thoughts?

I did test it in the socket in the boot and recall that it worked, but never have tried to light anything with it.

It is now in the ashtray with the change, placed in the rear cupholder.

My friend had this problem with his Feb build 07. Look down inside the socket. On the sides are metal tabs that engage the lighter. Bend those in slightly until it is holding properly. You should be able to push the lighter down and have it stay down until it's fully heated and pops up.

Make sure you don't have the car on when bending the tabs. You don't want to short anything out.

don't know why yours works and mine doesn't...

over the period of a few days i lost the LED third brake light due to a modification I was making, and both side marker turnsignals, again because of a mod....

no warning lights what so ever.

Maybe your mod was keeping the current the same? I know if a light goes out the indicator trips because of the missing voltage/resistance or something like that. I know when I had the boot handle disconnected for painting and moved my car, the indicator went off since the license plate lights were disconnected

na... I installed a third brake light pulsar from go-mini-go, and didn't tighten down one of the clips enough. it came un-done, so there was no current at all, it essentially functioned like a burnt out bulb.... they might not have installed a sensor on the third brake light because it's LED and there's very little flow anyway.

My big concern is when I took out my sidemarker bulbs. I switched with a member from here on NAM. We took out our sidemarkers and bulbs and sent them to each other (amber vs clear). It took 3 days, so I drove around for 3 days without side marker bulbs. I didn't get any warnings, the turn signal didn't even do the "fast blink" that most cars do when there's a burnt out bulb. The guy I switched with had the same issue.

Passenger Seatbelt Warning -

I did know it goes off when I have a small bag of groceries placed into the seat.

I didn't know it doesn't go off when I have a cat in a cat carrier in the seat even if it is placed sideways, forwards, or diagonally.

Last night the temperature dropped below 37F and the car gave me a warning as to the temperature when I turned the car on. It kind of freaked me out since I wasnt sure what was going on. The car automatically set the heat to 80 and had the fan turned way up. Maybe this is when the heated mirrors start?

Has anyone else had this happen?

That's interesting. I've had the temp warning but it didn't touch the auto climate controls in my 07.

The car starts chiming when the temp is 37 degrees or below to warn you to be careful of black ice (occurs at this temp.) As for the car automatically starting itself to heat...the only thing I can say is, did you hit the "auto" button, and already have it set at 80? My heated mirrors start heating when I start my defrosters I think...

yep the heated mirror should be tied to the defrosters. this is how it works on bmws.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. My Yorkie sets it off; unfortunately my purse does, too. I've GOT to clean it out!

Easy fix is just to fasten the seat belt.

Has anyone figured out the time before the memory in the car forgets settings? i.e. - If I get out for 5 min or so after turning off the car and get back in my heated seat stays on when I restart the car and the radio continues to play the same mp3 from where it left off.....There is some amount of time in which the Mini *forgets* this and turns off the heated seats and restarts the mp3 track after restarting the car.

It's about thirty minutes for most of those circuits.

This "Hot or Not" (post #2 of that Thread) gives details on different applications.

With Autos, you will also notice that the 'P' on shifter remains lit, until time runs out.
