R56 Above glove box storage - not for US?
The one i tryed at my dealer you had to push 2 times to open. It was not a realy hard push. ON the other car there i just taped it once and it opened. There is realy a difference between all of thease cars.
Box update (cross-posted)
Just came back from a bunch of upgrades (steel pedals, "old style" arm rest, sports stripes and so one). Nice, clean job.
I bought the iPod stowage box ($10) in hope that they will open the compartment and they will install the iPod box (fyi - my compartment was open before delivery and was subsequently closed at delivery). The iPod Stowage box is just a box (duh!) that keeps the items touch the CD changer connector that is visible in the back of the compartment.
They did not open it. I was told that there IS a recall on the door/compartment and there will be a solution but - for now - they are not allowed (by MINI) to open it. Down-the-line (unknown when, though) they might open it (for the CD changer and the iPod adapter only).
BTW - for those interested in the Sports strips: I ordered them for the MC (non-S). They are ... nice. They are different from the regular ones in 2 ways (in fact 3): 1. they do not have the white thin border that the regular ones have - so there is less contrast (it is ok for me - my roof is black and my car is Pure silver - so I am fine with that. I think it is more of an issue with bright color paint - the white border really makes them stand out). 2. the strips run on the bonnet (duh again!) but also on the trunk, and that is quite nice. 3. they are less expensive than the "regular" ones by $14 (bah!).
MMM

Dope hiding box installed!
Haha just kidding. I asked my MA if he could make sure the extra storage was left open on my car. He did. Cool little place. I plan on getting the ipod adapter maybe as a gift from Santa.
On another note I had no jack. Just a screwdriver and a wrench.

Fjork--the car should have a jack, per the latest bulletin from MINI. Make sure you get one (and a lug wrench, too). I got mine from a helpful MA, but now it's standard equipment again.
Do you happen to have some sort of reference number for the bulletin?
Good day everyone,
First, I have to admit I'm a little slow in the head, my MA told me when I picked up the car that the compartment is sealed shut and a fix is on the way. So I didn't try and open it, why would I he said it is sealed, yesterday I decided to press on it and "Tada!!!!" it opened.
Now I have had the car for about 3 weeks, not a single rattle or squeak. For a car this small it is truly amazing how quite the car is.
I know others have found out the same way, just thought I would share...
Did I tell ya I Love this Car...

Mine's locked
I picked my MINI up on Thursday night and the compartment is sealed. My MA said they're still sealing them and may not open them unless you get the CD changer.
Hoping he was wrong, I pushed and pushed but no luck. it's stuck shut.

Mine's closed tight. I wouldn't be so upset but there is precious little room to store anything. Every little square inch of storage space is in our cars something to be cherished.

Pictures perhaps..............
Perhaps some pictures for us who seem to be in the earlier builds and locked down ( mine is week 4) and can't seem to get it open no matter how I push it. It would seem crazy that they would have to take half the dash apart to "un secure" a door.............
I have the secret comprtment.Week 10 build. When I first saw it at the dealer preview I was very excited and thought it a really cool feature. The one I remember seeing was huge and could easily fit the manual in it. The one in my car has a plastic insert in it which takes up a lot area. I can barely fit my GPS unit in there now. I am still happy I have it but am somewhat disappointed from what I remember.
Happy to say, I was wrong!!
I happily retract my story - mine actually DOES open! My passenger opened it right up last night. I guess it's true; you have to push the right spot, which I obviously wasn't doing. So now I'm with the other March builds that can say "I have it".
Keep Trying...
I sensed movement in mine as well even though I couldn't get it open. Don't give up - you may not have found the "sweet spot" yet.
not only does mine not open (purchased about a month ago) but the damn thing makes buzzing sounds driving down the road, if I put my hand on the door it stops.
so not only do I now have the cubby compartment but it makes noise anyway. gee nice fix there mini. all it probably needed was a little trim piece to tight up the latch/closing to prevent rattling instead of sealing it shut and making it useless.
And I suppose its not like they are gonna call me and say, hey we can fix it now, I have to call every week to get a status and most of the time they dont know what your talking about. what a pain.
