R56 Above glove box storage - not for US?
Do you notice any rattles coming from that area?
My dealer WAS being nice, but the official word is that the MCS WILL have a jack, so I would pester your dealer until you get one. They're expensive. Don't forget the lug wrench.
Thlaxx, I'm surprised you got the compartment. Mine was ordered in December. I'm jealous!

Standard Coopers 07's with Runflats have the jack and supposedly at the MINI Training my MA said MINIUSA plans on eliminating the jacks from all cars in the coming years, hence why they removed it from the MCS..
So many conflicting stories.
I was looking on the parts dvd last night, and the cd changer definitely goes in that space. Since Coopers and Cooper Ses seem to have the storage package (the One doesn't) maybe all US cars have the opening door, and we could just unwire it ourselves? I'd love to be able to stash stuff there, will investigate further.
Same here... I am trying to get one from them anyways!
WK 4 or 5 Production - I have storage box but didn't realize it
-- first post - just got my car (MCS) yesterday --
Funny story - go out to your car now and try again....
I was at my mini dealer yesterday to pick up my car and during the walk through I asked about the storage compartment (I had already tried to open it and couldn't). The sales guy said early deliveries had it and customers loved them but something was wrong with the compartment and the DC sealed them. He tried to open it (pushed w/one hand on the left side of the storage area) no go.**He said that there was suppose to be some sort of fix in April and to call him around Easter.
I got the car home and proceeded to inspect every little thing...my 5yr old daughter comes and sits in the passenger seat next to me. She's very excited about my new "toy" (as she calls it). She proceeds to open the standard glove box and then I tell her that there's suppose to be this other (very exciting) hidden storage area. I push on the left area to indicated that it will open at a later date (no open). She then say "daddy, let me try" and take both of her hands and pushes somewhat hard (one on the left side - one on the right) and low and behold the compartment opens up!* Magic! She says "daddy, can I put some of my toys in here?". LOL
So, moral to this story is the dealer nor I could open this thing up with a single hand push on the left(ish) side. Try to use your thumb and index finger - one hand near the left and one on the right (about 1.5" in from the edges).
Jimmy
ps. when looking at the tool storage I & the MA noticed that there wasn't a jack - the MA swapped it with the tools from the demo car.

Maybe I should have your little girl come and play in my MCS because I just ran downstairs to try this and it didn't work :(
The right side does come loose a bit, but the left is just stuck, like glued! I guess I'll have to wait 'til April

I ordered the iPod Stowage Box
It was 10$ - so it was worth a try. It will arrvie in few days and they will HAVE to open the (damn') door to put it in. I'll update the forum at that time (with pictures). The reason that it might touch the CD connector and that is why they closed it will not stand up anymore. I'd really use that space for teh Garmin nuvi and other navigational stuff (Peeping Tom binoculars and such
)

My upper storage bin does requires firm "diverse" contact to open and shut. It's wildly different than the early style bin doors that I played with at the NAIAS, which required only a finger touch at the bottom to open/shut.
nah mine definitely does not have a working little storage box above the glove box. Ive tried firm, extra firm, and screwdriver, its locked down.
even went so far as to drop about 8 bolts out of the dash trying to get to it, bet even after all that the glove box would not come out(more screws holding it in that I could not get too) need to know how to get the strip with the glove box button, off.
Couldnt get that strip off and I didnt want to break it, so I gave up and put the whole thing back together.
Probably and easier way, but I had half the dash apart and I still couldnt drop the glove box enough to get access to that storage area above it or to whatever is keeping it locked down.
well anyway would love to here that they have a fix (tsb for it) so I can get one.

Got my R56 today. I believe it is a week 6 or 7 build. At the time of delivery, my MA said that the extra storage compartment had come sealed. But having read this thread, I tried a little harder and it actually opened. Even the MA was surprised. The trick is to press on both sides instead of just the middle. Once I got the hang of it, it was opening quite smoothly for me and it is quite a handy storage spot actually.
