I accepted delivery of my R56 MCS on 2/21/07, (it was ordered on 11/27/06 and built the first week of January'07).

During delivery the MA stated that the opening was temporarily disabled and that MINI would be providing dealer-installed parts to eliminate in-dash storage "rattling" issues.

Also, my R56 MCS has Cold Weather, Premium & Sports Pkg, LSD and Sports Suspension, but NO JACK in the boot tool kit! Just a limted number of tools (3) in the styrofoam holder. The MA said that all of their MINI's with run falts have been delivered that way - has anyone else experienced an incomplete standard tool kit under the boot carpet?

To me, the manual seemed to show you only get the full toolkit when you have a spare. I forget the exact wording.

I'm easy either way...if we get it or if we don't. The door is rather complex...if it means rattles and/or malfunctions I'd rather not have it!!

I didn't even know it was possible to order one with spare instead of runflats. I want my jack!

100% sure the S model has a jack, lug wrench, 1 double open ended wrench, one allen wrench for emergency sunroof operation, and a tow hook in the tool kit in the boot.

My MA said he found out the some "slipped through" on the assembly line, and they had rattles. He's hoping for a cure and retrofit.

P.S. It's on page 72 of the book...

Different answer

I drove my car (MC 2007) before the prep. It DID have both storage options (below and above). I opened the one on top with a push on the dashboard. You could see in the back the wires for the CD changer.

At the delivery - the storage was closed/locked. I was told they were instructed to close it by MINI "becausae there are wires inside" and only when installing the CD changer the door is unlocked. I assume it is a screw somewhere - quite accesible - that keeps it locked.

That sucks for 2 reasons:
- it means that the CD changer can be installed only at the dealer (and who knows how much they will charge for that);
- any other options (like XM Radio or the aftermarket IPod kit) that use the CD changer plug taht would have been otherwise easy to install now will be painful to do-it-yourself without the unlocked door.

Interesting how many stories there are--we'll have to see how this one plays out. My MA was cautiously optimistic that we'd get it "back."

I'm 100% confident that if the door can be locked and opened by the dealer, it can be opened by us.

I'm planning to look for the locking screw...

...today. It just upset me that the door was locked without telling me in advance.

Exactly.

Everybody that has received their R56 ...please start looking for that screw and show us where it is.

Thanks.

I spoke to the MA from whom I ordered my car, and she told me that by the time my car is delivered there should be a fix for the storage compartment. She said, "The official word on the storage area behind the dash- its been sealed for now but will be opened when the correct parts are shipped to the dealerships. It's a nice area- it will hold the 6-disk changer or the iPod dock, if installed. All '07s already have it there, just need to get it working correctly."

Just thought I would chime in. I have a MCS with the Sport Pkg (LSD, Run Flats, etc) and it did not come with the spare. It did come with the footwell cargo net, the three nets for the boot, and the power adaptor in the boot.

Did anyone get a first aid kit, emergency break down reflectors, etc? I only got the hook for towing and a screw driver...

There is a $10 charge for the extra storage comparment on my dealers website. It's listed as an IPOD Stowage Box, is this not the same thing?

You should have a jack, prb44t. The official word now is that a jack is included. Be sure you get the lug wrench, too. The first aid kit and triangle are a Euro requirement. You won't get them here.

My MA says (today) that there is a service bulletin instructiing the technicians how to bolt down the box. Still no word on a fix, but he says everything's in a high state of flux right now--often conflicting memos just days apart. Stay tuned.

It's probably already there, so it seems there would only be installation charges and not $10 plus installation.

The picture on the web site shows the same thing that I have seen in many cars in the showroom at my dealer.

so I picked up my new 07 S last week.

it had the cd changer prep there.

the compartment above the glovebox is locked. and since light shines
up from behind the locked door when I open the glove box id say there is not compartment there either. so its either a blank or a locked door with no pocket.

from speaking with the service department they said a few in beginning had them, they rattled and so were told to lock down any that were on the lot.

not sure if the rest of the production are locked ahead of time or if the dealer has to keep locking them as they come in.

car could sure use the extra storage though. no arm rest, no special compartment, ugh.

i would be surprised if they called me one day and said we have a fix from and get it. I suspect its up to us to keep hounding them about a replacement.

Are you sure the jack is included if you have the run-flats?? Just want to make sure.

Also the $10 storage box I think is the "sled" for the ipod to sit in. If you look at the ipod interface instructions I posted on another thread there is a "storage box" item listed. I don't think this is the same as the space on top of the glove box.

Yes, all of the MCS are coming over with runflats, and a jack IS included as of now. I actually got a jack upon delivery because my MA raided other tool kits. Now he doesn't have to.

My MA confirmed that the storage boxes are being locked at the port due to a squeak/rattle issue. She also said there will be a campaign soon to reopen them once they have all the parts in to correct the squeak.

If you notice, the ipod stowage box sits in the dashboard which would be the extra storage in the dash.
